The Spanish government ignores Antich when awarding the Cross of Charles III... and the political parties demand explanations.

The PSIB has asked the Executive of Pedro Sánchez to rectify

PalmThe Spanish government has decided to award the Grand Cross of Charles III to former regional presidents and senators Javier Lambán and Guillermo Fernández Vara, who died this year. However, it has omitted Francesc Antich, president of the Balearic Islands between 1999 and 2003 and between 2007 and 2011, who died in January 2025. This oversight has prompted all parties in the Balearic Parliament (including the PSIB) to demand explanations.

In the press conference following the House Spokespersons' Meeting, PSIB spokesperson Iago Negueruela expressed disappointment with the decision of Pedro Sánchez's administration and stated that he has already requested a rectification. "He did many things for the Islands, promoted the tourist tax and the reform of financing, fought for the protection of the territory, supported agreements and negotiation, and was a pioneer in equality measures," he emphasized.

For his part, PP spokesperson Sebastià Sagreras considered that Sánchez had made an "ugly gesture" toward the former Socialist president, and believed that he "should have already rectified his position." For Vox, Manuela Cañadas expressed surprise at the decision, but framed it as an issue that the PSOE should resolve. Meanwhile, the leader of MÉS for Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, described it as an "unjustifiable lack of respect." "Antich belongs to all of us," he explained. Similarly, Josep Castells (Más por Menorca) called the decision an "injustice."
