The Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, has announced that all public educational centers in the Balearic Islands will have a school canteen service this academic year. The measure is part of the new features that the Ministry plans for the start of the school year (September 10), along with new infrastructures, changes in the coverage of teaching positions, and the start of negotiations for the new Educational Commitment 2027-2031.

Can Arabí will not manage any public school canteen this academic year. The company, which provided service to 44 centers until last year, has been left out of the new contracts that the Ministry of Education is awarding these days. The outcome comes after the Ministry of Health provisionally suspended the activity of the Can Arabí central kitchen last June due to several breaches in food safety matters. Education confirms that the suspension from Health has been decisive in removing the company from the new contracts. “Health suspended Can Arabí as an operator at the time. This allowed Education to restrict all contracts,” explain sources from the department. According to Education, the new services are being awarded to other companies these days and “none of them is Can Arabí”.

"The investigation depended on the manager." The draft, to which ARA Balears has had access, includes 191 combinations of specialty, workload, and island, six more than last year, with a particularly high incidence in Ibiza (75 positions) and Menorca (43). Formentera concentrates 25 positions considered of very difficult coverage. These positions are linked to the economic supplements agreed by Education: 200 euros per month in Menorca, 300 in Ibiza, and 400 in Formentera.

The IB-Salut denies that the difficulties in invoicing and collecting healthcare for tourists are a widespread problem within public healthcare. The IB-Salut's management director, Yago Gómez, argues that the majority of invoicing is recovered and attributes pending cases to specific situations.

The problem becomes particularly evident in September, when summer schools begin to close, but the regular school year has not yet started. Education ignores almost seven out of ten substantive proposals made by the School Council of the Balearic Islands (CEIB), the highest consultative and educational participation body, where the different sectors of the educational community are represented. The Balearic Government's new decree on educational cooperation agreements has sparked widespread rejection among key players in the educational and political left in the Balearic Islands. The Ministry of Education and Universities has taken a new step to promote the future Arts District of Palma with the transfer of 1,220,021.67 euros to the Balearic Institute of Educational Infrastructure and Services (Ibisec). This allocation will finance the drafting of the construction project for the three buildings that will form the new campus for higher artistic education in the Balearic Islands: the Higher Conservatory of Music, the Higher School of Dramatic Art of the Balearic Islands (ESADIB), and the Higher School of Design.

The SIAU union has responded to the assessment by the Minister of Education, Antoni Vera, regarding the allocation of teaching positions. After he remarked that "the best organized teaching management process of recent years" has been completed and stated that 99% of vacancies have been filled, the union accuses the Ministry of constructing "a propagandistic narrative" that "does not withstand a rigorous analysis of the data." According to SIAU, while the minister claims only 36 vacancies remain to be allocated, the Portal del Docent Interí showed 124 positions unallocated after the last procedure. Of these, 93 correspond to replacements, 16 are temporary positions for programs, and 15 are vacancies.
