In 1976, Porreres took a key step in education. That academic year, the doors opened to a center that was born with the name Colegio Nacional Mixto. It was a school that responded to demographic growth and the need for new facilities in the municipality. This year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the currently named CEIP Climent Serra i Servera blows out the candles, consolidated as a benchmark for public, inclusive, and diverse education in Porreres and in the Pla de Mallorca.

A committee of experts from various autonomous communities has participated in the technical review of the 2011 inclusive education decree with the aim of elaborating a new regulation adapted to current reality. The joint work has made it possible to define a battery of improvement proposals that will be translated into a draft decree, which the Government plans to submit for public exhibition soon.

The educational centers of the Balearic Islands have been facing serious problems since the beginning of the year with Llull, the new educational management tool promoted by the Ministry of Education. The system, which will progressively replace GestIB, has been awarded for 5.4 million euros to the multinational Ayesa and has a clear origin: it is the same software used by the Junta de Andalucía, from whom it has been 'copied'. In fact, the implementation itself has evidenced this dependence on the base model, to the point of bizarre situations: "One day I was in Llull, I clicked on validate and sign invoice and a tab from the Junta de Andalucía opened up for me," explains the director of a center in western Mallorca.

The City Council and the management teams of the public and state-subsidized schools in Manacor were put out of play when the Ministry of Education informed them that the municipality, until now divided into four school zoning areas (Manacor, Portocristo, Son Macià, and l’Illot), would become a single zone, as is the case in the rest of Mallorca's municipalities except for four: Calvià, Andratx, Selva, and Santa Margalida.

The single school zone, which will be implemented in most municipalities in the Balearic Islands, The Ministry of Education will apply the single zone starting in the 2026-2027 academic year to all municipalities in Mallorca, except Selva, Calvià, Santa Margalida, and Andratx; to those in Menorca (Maó will maintain a separate zone for Sant Climent) and to Formentera. The towns of Ibiza will maintain diverse areas, at least this academic year.

The Governing Council has given the go-ahead to the decree that sets the foundations for the new Baccalaureate Excellence Program (PEB), an initiative aimed at fostering and recognizing the academic performance of students with the most outstanding results. As explained by the Executive's spokesperson, Antoni Costa, the program will provide students with additional tools and a specific framework designed to enhance talent during the post-compulsory stage.

The call driven by GOB to demand fair school transport fares has already garnered the support of more than a hundred educational centers in Mallorca, Menorca, and Eivissa, and more than a dozen associations of principals, families, and unions, in a context marked by tourist pressure, which makes travel more expensive to the point of making it unaffordable for many centers and pushes some companies to stop offering this service as it is considered less profitable. The result is that there are students who never leave their municipality, because they depend on the school to do so and to see the world. Adhesions have been incorporated in recent days and demonstrate the growing scope of a problem that has been affecting the entire educational community for years.

The Ministry of Education continues to deploy the air conditioning plan for educational centers in the Balearic Islands, with an investment totaling nearly 16.3 million euros. The Balearic Institute of Educational Infrastructure and Services (IBISEC) has put out to tender the drafting of the projects, which can now be consulted on the public procurement platform, for an amount of 172,669 euros. The objective of the plan is to improve the thermal comfort of the buildings and guarantee more comfortable and sustainable spaces. The actions include improvements in insulation, renovation of carpentry, air conditioning systems, boilers, and the installation of solar panels.

If something stuck with me from my school days is that there were very violent teachers. I remember one who beat a child until he was destroyed. Another day, he threw one out the window. Today, it would be unthinkable. Back then, nothing happened. There were also humiliations. A classmate with a facial deformity, who spoke with difficulty, was ridiculed by the principal in front of the entire class. He asked him if he had finished selling coupons. No one laughed. The silence was more eloquent than any laughter.

When I started school, I was three years old and the youngest in the class, because we are from November. The first memories are of the Franciscan nuns of Bunyola. I especially remember Sister Antònia: a small, chubby woman who never raised her voice. I have no memory of punishments or bad words. I went to school happy, without fear.

In this context, they warn of the “deep unease of the educational community regarding the current situation of the centre concerning the building's structure and the works being carried out there – which, incidentally, were supposed to begin last summer, not at the start of the school year”.
