Unemployment fell by 10,000 people in the Balearic Islands during the third quarter of 2026, a decrease of 22.5% compared to the previous quarter, bringing the number of unemployed to 34,400. According to data from the Labour Force Survey (EPA), published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the Islands have seen two consecutive quarters of unemployment reduction and have recorded the lowest number of unemployed people in a third quarter since 2007.

The Balearic Islands registered a total of 1,730,716 foreign tourists in September, thus becoming the autonomous community with the most travelers residing outside of Spain, ahead of Catalonia (1,576,701) and Andalusia (1,032,177). This is reflected in the Hotel Tourism Situation survey made public this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), which also indicates that the Archipelago received a total of 168,851 Spanish tourists in September.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 5.1% in the Balearic Islands in September in year-on-year terms, seven tenths higher than the previous month, according to the final data published this Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). With this result, prices have chained five consecutive months of increases in the Archipelago.

The seasonal permanent workers in the Balearic Islands will have to wait nearly eight days to get an appointment at the Balearic Islands Employment Service (SOIB) during this year's campaign, which began this Tuesday and will run until January 31, 2027. Palma's municipal housing plan takes a new step forward. The Palma Governing Board approved this Wednesday the constitution of the Compensation Board for the Strategic Residential Project (PRE) of Son Puigdorfila, an area where the construction of up to 623 homes is planned, 320 of which will have some degree of protection. The agreement allows for progress in the project's processing, which began in March with the final approval of the statutes and the operating bases of the Compensation Board.

The State Public Employment Service (SEPE) has recorded 26,547 unemployed in September in the Balearic Islands, 493 more than the same month of the previous year, which represents a rise of 1.9%, while affiliation to Social Security has increased by 4.5% year-on-year, with 29,079 more, reaching 684,079.

United Airlines will strengthen the direct connection between Palma and New York in the summer of 2027 with a daily flight between Newark airport and Son Sant Joan. The company plans to operate three weekly frequencies starting in March and increase them to seven from May 26 until October. The route, launched in 2022, is currently the only non-stop connection between Mallorca and the United States.
