Eroski sold a total of 69 million euros in local products in the Balearic Islands during 2025, a figure that consolidates the weight of proximity foods within the supermarket chain's offering. The data was released this Tuesday in Campos, during the presentation of a new edition of the 'Productes de Sa Nostra Terra' campaign, with which the company aims to give visibility to producers from the Islands.

The president of the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB), Carmen Planas, assured this Wednesday that in the Islands "one cannot grow indefinitely", and appealed to the Government's management to control tourist flows. The president of the CAEB made these statements accompanied by the vice-presidents and representatives of the main associations integrated into the employers' association to read a manifesto on the tourist and economic model.

The Director General of Economy and Statistics, Catalina Barceló, considers that productivity is one of the main problems of the Balearic economy. She provides some data in conversation with ARA Balears, in which she warns that despite economic indicators indicating growth, the Islands have lost competitive strength in recent years.

Aena's works council at Menorca airport has warned that it does not rule out calling a strike during the August 15th long weekend if management maintains its stance and does not open negotiations to strengthen the workforce. Water reserves have never been so low in Menorca, only at 34% of capacity, and the pre-alert situation is beginning to alarm everyone. If only temporary disability leave is counted, the percentage is even lower: 4.3%. Why this happens is an unknown for the Government.

Prices rose in the Balearic Islands in June by 3.4% compared to the same month last year, above the Spanish average of 3.2%, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE). The products that rose the most last June were restaurants and accommodation (7.6%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.9%), and housing (3.5%).

In an Ibiza where access to housing has become one of the main social emergencies, with runaway rents, inaccessible purchases and a growing number of residents forced to share flats and live in precarious conditions, the luxury real estate market is moving figures that seem from another reality. In this context, the real estate agency John Taylor has put two new properties in Mallorca on sale for a combined value of 57 million euros: an amount with which, in many municipalities on the island, an entire housing development or an entire neighborhood could be acquired or built.

A French group has bought Grupo Servera, one of the main food distributors for the Horeca channel in the Balearic Islands, in an operation that represents a new move within the progressive entry of foreign capital into the island's business fabric. The purchase has already been officialized and the most important part of the agreement, as explained by the president and founder of the entity, Tolo Servera, to ARA Balears, is that "nothing will change". In fact, as he detailed, the purchase involves clients, employees, machinery, brands and everything that makes up the company. "We were clear that we didn't want to sell it to an investment fund that would speculate with jobs, we wanted to continue with the company, and that's why we sold it to a group from the same sector," he explained.

Quesería Menorquina has been distinguished with the ARA Balears award for Economic Initiative, a recognition of the recovery and transformation trajectory of one of the most emblematic companies in the agri-food sector of the Islands.

As summer is about to begin, Menorca is once again knocking on the door of mobilization against tourist saturation. The Via Menorca platform, driven by the GOB and an enthusiastic group of young people, is the promoter of the first of the major demonstrations and protests – that of Saturday, June 13 – which are being announced throughout the Islands to demand effective and immediate measures in defense of housing and natural resources. The first public outcry has been in Menorca, where, says the GOB's territorial policy coordinator, Miquel Camps, "we still have time to avoid becoming a new Ibiza".

After the crisis in Mallorca's dairy sector and the closure of Agama, there have been many doubts and administrative procedures to ensure that the island's producing farms could sell the thousands of liters of milk they had been supplying to the Barcelona-based Damm group company. A sudden and critical situation that forced the Government to explore various solutions to save face, so that the remaining producers could continue supplying cow's milk to Mallorcan processing companies.
