The Balearic Islands registered the arrival of 482,831 international tourists in March, 14.07% more than in the third month of last year, according to the Border Tourist Movements statistic published this Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). According to the same data, between January and March, the Archipelago received the visit of 836,544 international tourists, 3.37% more than in the first three months of 2025.

Unemployment fell by 4.5% in the first quarter of the year in the Balearic Islands, with a total of 91,800 unemployed people, which is 4,400 less than in the same period of 2025, and 76.5% more than the previous quarter, with 39,800 more unemployed people in the islands.

Prices in the Balearic Islands have risen by 3.6% in March compared to the same month last year due to the war in the Middle East and the increase in fuel costs, according to data from the INE published this Tuesday.

The Balearic Islands began 2026 with a 1.44% increase in births, according to data for January published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Specifically, a total of 773 births occurred in the archipelago during the first month of the year. Of those born in January, 391 were girls and 382 were boys. The majority of births were to mothers in the 30-34 age bracket (260), followed by those aged 35-39 (233) and 25-29 (138). Regarding deaths, the INE statistics published this Wednesday reveal that 1,807 deaths were recorded in the Balearic Islands up to week 9 of 2026, a 0.14% increase compared to the same week of the previous year. 193 people died in the Islands this week alone.

Home sales in the Balearic Islands grew by 5% year-on-year in 2015, reaching 14,529 units, according to data published this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This marks a return to positive growth rates, with a total of 1,104 transactions recorded in December. These sales represent the fourth-highest figure for the month in the region's recorded history. Of the total, 11,522 were market-rate homes; 3,303 were market-rate homes; and 230 were subsidized housing. Compared to the previous month, home sales in the Islands fell by 2.2%.

The Balearic Islands ended 2025 with a 2.56% decrease in the birth rate compared to the previous year, according to data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Specifically, a total of 8,835 births occurred in the archipelago last year, 774 of them in December alone. Of those born in the last month of the year, 399 were girls and 375 were boys. The Balearic Islands received 15,281,771 international tourists through October, a 2.51% increase, who spent over €20.469 billion in the region, a 5.1% increase, according to data published Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute. In October alone, the archipelago welcomed over 1.5 million international tourists, a 1.72% decrease compared to the same month last year, with spending exceeding €2 billion, a 1.6% drop. Despite the decline, this is the second-highest figure for international tourist arrivals and the second-highest for spending in an October for the region in the historical record. On average, each tourist visiting the Balearic Islands spent €195 per day in October, 3.64% more than in the same month of the previous year, and stayed an average of 6.83 days in the Balearic Islands. In total, the average expenditure per person was €1,330, 0.18% more than in October of the previous year.

The population of the Balearic Islands reached 1,249,844 inhabitants on January 1, 2025, representing an increase of 18,076 people in one year, 1.5% higher than the national increase (1%), according to the first data from the 2025 Annual Population Census published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). This increase places the archipelago as the second fastest-growing autonomous community, tied with the Community of Madrid and second only to the Valencian Community (2%). The Balearic Islands have 622,673 men and 613,910 women, according to the same source. Ibiza is the ninth municipality in Spain with the largest population increase in the last year, rising by 2.6% to 54,628 residents.

The population of the Balearic Islands has grown by 0.93% compared to last year. This is according to provisional data from the Continuous Population Survey (ECP) as of October 1st, published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Compared to the previous quarter, the population grew by 0.20% in the third quarter, reaching 1.25 million inhabitants. Of the total population of the archipelago, 625,685 are men and 629,376 are women. According to the statistics, 974,288 people live in Mallorca; 165,648 in Ibiza; 103,281 in Menorca; and 11,844 in Formentera.

The average mortgage amount in Spain for home purchases has risen in a decade, from just over €100,000 to nearly €170,000 between August 2015 and the same month this year, an increase of almost 63%. In the Balearic Islands, the increase has reached 70%. The archipelago is the fourth region with the largest increase, behind Madrid (95%), Andalusia (77%), and the Valencian Community (74%). According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in August 2015 the average mortgage amount for home purchases was €104,318, compared to €169,650 in August of this year, the most recent month for which data is available. This average increase of 63% falls slightly short of the overall rise in housing prices this decade, a period in which the price per square meter has increased from €1,524 to €2,679, representing a difference of nearly 76%.

Births in the Balearic Islands fell by 4.66% between January and August 2025 compared to the same period last year, to 5,667 births, according to data released Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Turnover in the services sector in the Balearic Islands grew by 8.3% in July compared to the same month last year, well above the average increase recorded for Spain as a whole, which stood at 4.7%.

The price of unlisted housing has soared by 11.7% in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2024, one point less than the figure recorded at the national level, according to the Housing Price Index (HPI) of the National Statistics Institute (INE) published this Friday.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 3.5% in the Balearic Islands in July year-on-year, seven-tenths of a percentage point higher than the previous month's year-on-year rate. It is the region with the highest rate, according to final data published this Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

The foreign-born population of the Balearic Islands grew by 3.42% in July compared to the previous year, three times as much as the population born in Spain, which remained virtually unchanged and is growing at less than 1%. Specifically, the Balearic Islands reached 1.25 million inhabitants in the seventh month of the year, of which 891,890 were born in Spain and 359,196 were born abroad.

Home sales in the Balearic Islands rose 1.2% in June compared to the same month last year (compared to a 17.9% increase nationwide), with a total of 1,092 transactions. This makes the islands the autonomous community with the lowest increase, more than 15 percentage points below the national average. Unemployment registered with public employment service offices rose by 664 in July in the Balearic Islands compared to the previous month (+2.7%) to 25,386 unemployed, although year-on-year unemployment in the region fell by 7.35% (2,013 fewer unemployed), according to published data.
