The Government will ensure that teachers and technicians of Early Childhood Education in subsidized centers of the first cycle, from 0 to 3 years old, are incorporated into the delegated payroll payment system from January 2027. The Governing Council approved this Friday the decree-law of urgent measures in educational matters, which modifies the financing model of the stage launched in 2023 with free schooling. The Department of Education and Universities will promote the necessary actions during the second half of this year so that the new system can come into operation in January 2027. In the case of cooperatives, the regulation provides for the possibility that they directly receive the full financing module.

Nearly 150 teachers and ANPE union representatives have gathered this Tuesday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and the territorial delegations of Menorca and Ibiza to demand the full recovery of extraordinary payments and the implementation of a difficult coverage supplement for teachers in Mallorca. According to the union, which called for the protest, around a hundred teachers participated in the gathering in Mallorca, while about thirty attended in Menorca and fifteen in Ibiza.

The Independent, Autonomous and United Union (SIAU) has reported alleged irregularities this Monday in the main process of awarding positions to interim teaching civil servants. The union assures that some applicants would have known their destination days before the Ministry of Education officially published the awards, a situation it considers contrary to the principles of equality and transparency that should govern this procedure.

Teachers in Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera will be able to continue working until age 70 if they request it from the 2026-2027 academic year. The Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, announced this Wednesday that the Ministry will approve an instruction with new criteria to authorize retirement extensions for teaching civil servants over 65 years of age, which will differentiate the conditions according to the needs of each island.

The teacher assemblies of two institutes, IES Can Peu Blanc in sa Pobla and IES Sa Blanca Dona in Ibiza, have made public two highly critical manifestos in which they denounce the reduction of teaching staff, the elimination of groups and subjects, and the increase in student-teacher ratios planned in numerous centers. The contrast with what is happening across the sea is difficult to ignore: in Catalonia and the Valencian Country, similar educational realities have ignited strong mobilizations and strikes that have shaken the respective governments. In the Balearic Islands, on the other hand, the tension has been dissolving without a bang, as if it had evaporated before turning into conflict. It is true that island teachers, at least before the agreed or pending improvements are finalized, earn more than their Valencian and Catalan counterparts. But money, often, does not explain what happens in classrooms.

A classroom with heat, insufficient ventilation, and students trying to follow the class while the course enters its final stretch. The scene, repeated in many centers in the Balearic Islands, summarizes a year marked by wear and tear and the feeling that the distance between educational planning and classroom reality continues to grow. In this context, the Ministry of Education has announced several measures throughout the course: the Baccalaureate of Excellence, the incorporation of psychologists in Primary education, the reinforcement of emotional support for teachers, new coexistence measures, the consolidation of free 0-3 stage education, and the commitment to Vocational Training (FP), in addition to investments in centers, among others. All this comes to a system that, according to the centers, continues to be marked by a lack of foresight and the difficulty of turning announcements into real improvements.
