The general secretary of the Palma Socialist Group, Iago Negueruela, has been proclaimed the PSOE candidate for the mayoralty of Palma for the municipal elections of 2027. He has gone from being the right-hand man of the Government of Francina Armengol and head of the Parliamentary Group to leading the party – since March 2025 – in the capital of the Balearic Islands. He assures that he is taking the step towards municipal politics because he considers that "Palma is not well" and defends that a change of course is needed after three years of PP government with Vox.

BiciPalma has opened four stations at La Teulera, Son Dureta, Son Armadans, and Avinguda de Picasso and plans to launch eleven more in the coming weeks. The action is part of the third phase of service expansion, funded with 750,000 euros and which also includes the incorporation of 150 new bicycles, all electric.

MÉS per Palma has proposed this Monday to limit the price of commercial rents in the city's stressed areas to protect local businesses and curb the replacement of traditional businesses by franchises and establishments exclusively oriented towards tourism. The proposal has been presented at the former Donya Àngela haberdashery, one of Palma's historic businesses, which the party has symbolically turned into a real estate agency to denounce how speculation is transforming the city and expelling both residents and traditional businesses. According to MÉS, the problem is not a lack of customers, but the continuous increase in commercial rents. "Many businesses don't close because the business isn't working. They close because, when the contract ends, the new rent is simply unaffordable," explained MÉS per Palma candidate David Pujol.The group warns that this process is causing an homogenization of Palma's commercial landscape. Neighborhood businesses are disappearing and are being replaced by franchises, large chains, or establishments geared towards tourist consumption, which impoverishes the identity of the neighborhoods and reduces the services intended for the resident population. For this reason, MÉS proposes to promote specific regulation of commercial rents in the most tense areas, with the aim of avoiding disproportionate price increases, facilitating the continuity of local businesses and preserving the commercial diversity of the city. "When speculation enters through the door, neighborhood commerce leaves through the window," summarized Pujol.The spokesperson for MÉS per Palma, Neus Truyol, recalled that the disappearance of traditional commerce is a direct consequence of the same model that expels residents from neighborhoods. MÉS also recalled that the General Plan promoted during the last term incorporated tools to preserve the commercial balance of the neighborhoods and limit the concentration of tourist uses, but that the Popular Party abandoned that model.For the ecosovereignist party, protecting local trade is a city policy comparable to housing regulation. "If we regulate residential rents so that people can continue living in their neighborhoods, we must also protect the businesses that make daily life possible. Without local trade, neighborhoods lose their identity and cease to be neighborhoods," concluded Pujol.

The Palma City Council will demolish the building of the Son Reus municipal animal protection health center to build two new ones. The Governing Board approved this Wednesday the contracting file to tender the works and services necessary to erect a new administrative building and another auxiliary one. The project has a base tender budget of 1,986,409.23 euros (VAT included) and, according to the spokesperson for the municipal government team, Mercedes Celeste, it is "a decisive step in the modernization of municipal facilities that had not experienced any action of this magnitude for years".

Palma City Council has initially approved the new municipal ordinance on urbanization, trees, and open spaces, replacing the one in effect since 1985. It unifies criteria for the design and transformation of public spaces with the aim of "improving accessibility, sustainability, legal certainty, and urban quality," as explained by the Councilor for Urbanism, Housing, and Strategic Projects, Óscar Fidalgo, at a press conference. "With this step, Cort has an updated instrument that will allow for the planning of future urban developments under common criteria of quality, sustainability, accessibility, and legal certainty," he highlighted.

The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, defended this Monday the fine of 240 euros imposed by the Llotja-Born Neighbors Association for putting up posters against noise in the neighborhood, considering that it is a breach of the civic ordinance and that, "if an ordinance is breached, the City Council has the obligation to sanction". On this matter, the mayor said that the Consistory must act when municipal regulations are breached and rejected that the debate should focus on the fact that the sanction is against a neighborhood entity.

MÉS per Palma denounces that the Partit Popular government in Cort has decided to open the door to companies and investment funds being able to buy subsidized housing. This decision, in their opinion, turns protected housing into "a new business for large speculators and directly harms the citizens of Palma". As they detailed at a press conference, until now, this subsidized housing was reserved for families who needed a home to live in.

The citizen platform Flipau amb Pere Garau has requested the EMT of Palma to extend the NitBus service also on weekdays to respond to the needs of workers with night shifts. The Palma City Council and the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle have signed this Tuesday the protocol to promote the execution of the new outfall of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR II), located in Platja de Palma, as well as the new treatment lines 5 and 6. These actions will allow the plant's purification capacity to be increased from the current 60,000 cubic meters per day to 90,000.

The Palma City Council has responded today to the announcement by Orgull Llonguet regarding the suspension of the organization of Canamunt and Canavall and has assured that it has not modified its support for the festival. The citizen platform Flipau amb Pere Garau has denounced the proliferation of abandoned cars in the neighborhood's streets and has criticized the "inaction" of the Palma City Council in the face of a situation that, it claims, degrades public space and further reduces the available parking spaces in one of the most densely populated areas of the city.

The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, has defended the municipal management of the LGTBIQ+ Pride events and has assured that the contracting has been carried out in a “escrupolosa” manner, after Ben Amics filed a complaint for possible irregularities in the awarding procedure and criticized the organization model of the festivities. Martínez has placed this weekend's celebrations within normality and has rejected the collective's criticism. “It is very good for Ben Amics to report anything they consider has been done wrong, and I am convinced that the legal services, the technicians, and the political leaders have done it scrupulously, as always,” he stated.

The Palma City Council has presented the preliminary draft to convert the old prison into a public residence for professionals, a large coliving facility with 139 temporary accommodations primarily intended for doctors, researchers, professors "from the universities", members of state security forces and corps, and other workers who need accommodation during their stay in the city. The labor situation at the Son Reus municipal landfill in Palma has entered a phase of open conflict. The UGT union has announced staff mobilizations starting July 17th due to the "serious labor precariousness" and lack of safety in a service considered essential for the city.

The conflict over the organization of Palma Pride took a step further this Friday and has now reached the courts.
