The Directorate General of Traffic has launched an advertising campaign under the slogan ‘You look at your phone so you don't miss anything and you end up missing everything’. The video shows a pedestrian being run over at a crosswalk and builds an unequivocal narrative: the fault lies with the pedestrian who is distracted looking at their mobile phone. From Sineu en Bici i a Peu we want to explain why this campaign is not only wrong, but points in the exact opposite direction to what we need if we want safer streets for people.

This was announced on Monday by the Island Councilor for Territory, Mobility, and Infrastructure, Fernando Rubio, at a press conference. He explained that the legal argument for the appeal is based on technical reports from the Island Council that support the removal of the lane, which should be "binding," just as they were when it was implemented. Rubio argued that this infrastructure "has not produced the desired effects" and that, therefore, the Island Council has opted for this legal route after the High Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) issued a ruling just a month ago in favor of maintaining the lane. In any case, the implementation of the bus/HOV lane has been suspended since 2024 due to various road infrastructure works on the island. Once these are completed, it should be reinstated unless the courts decide otherwise. The regional minister also announced that new works to improve safety on the highway median will begin "shortly" and that work on the first section of the second ring road will start in a few months.

The iconic route, which begins in Plaça de Güell—at the intersection of Aragó and Torcuato Luca de Tena streets—will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday and continue into the early hours of Sunday. This year, the organizers hope to reach 10,000 participants. The 48-kilometer route typically lasts between eight and 13 hours and passes through the following municipalities: Marratxí, Santa Maria, Consell, Binissalem, Lloseta, Biniamar, Selva, Caimari, and, finally, Lluc. The entire route is on a paved road. Coaches have also been arranged to travel from Pollença and Alcúdia to Inca for those who wish to depart from that point. The walk can also be started from any of the other municipalities along the route.
