Pedro Bestard has managed to push forward one of his main bets at the head of the Department of Environment of the Council of Mallorca: opening public estates to the practice of hunting. The island institution has approved a regulation that will allow hunting with a shotgun and pointing dog for ten days of the 2026-2027 season and to recover the traditional hunting of thrushes with nets at the public estate of Tossals Verds. The decision culminates an initiative that the second vice president of the Council and leader of Vox began to promote in 2025 and has sparked criticism from MÉS per Mallorca, which accuses him of turning the public natural heritage into his "private hunting ground".

The poem continues, but I will leave it here: this just serves to begin this letter to my friends and family members who are considering voting for the right in the upcoming state elections.

Jorge Campos has not been able to preserve his position as head of the list for the Balearic Islands after the tensions he has maintained with the leadership of Vox this legislative term. Santiago Abascal's party has left him off the lists and has placed Maribel Cerezo as number one, as reported by Última Hora and confirmed by party sources to ARA Balears.

The Vox spokesperson, Manuela Cañadas, conveyed during the second session of the general policy debate her "full willingness" to negotiate new budgets and, furthermore, to be a partner of the PP in the next legislature. But she did so by placing three conditions on the table. "More deregulation, firmness against illegal immigration and, in aid and housing, locals first," asserted the deputy, who warned the Government that "the extended hand is not a blank check".

PSIB spokesperson Iago Negueruela has kicked off the second session of the general policy debate. After the president, Marga Prohens, announced new tax cuts to facilitate young people's access to housing, the socialist deemed these announcements insufficient and accused her of "wasting three and a half years for society". "She removes taxes for young people, but how much does a house cost? 400,000 euros", he criticized. "How much does a young person earn in these Islands? They cannot pay for a house, live in an apartment, or rent a room", he continued: "This is your track record".

The deputy spokesperson for Vox, Sergio Rodríguez, announced this Wednesday that they will vote against the capital city law, for which a report was issued this Wednesday at the Institutional Affairs Commission in Parliament. He asserts that there are amendments, such as the modification of the structure of the Health areas so that nurses can direct them, which are alien to the original spirit of the text. However, the regulation could still go ahead because the PSIB voted in favor of its processing last May.

The first plenary session after the calling of the general elections has turned into an open war between the right-wing bench and the left-wing bench over housing. The PSIB has signed up to Pedro Sánchez's plans, who has started the pre-campaign by approving 21 housing measures, and has brought a bill to request that the Islands be declared a stressed area and to force a pronouncement from the PP and Vox. But, furthermore, it has invited both socialist mayors and Pilar López, an evicted woman, and union representatives to Parliament to put pressure on the Government.

Housing has returned to be the center of the debate this Tuesday in Parliament. All left-wing parties have pressured the Government during the parliamentary session to demand rent price controls. According to IBAVI data that the Housing Ministry has provided in a written response to the PSIB, prices have gone from an average of 834 euros per month in 2022 to 1390 euros per month in 2025, a 66.7% increase in just three years.

The first reaction from the Vox spokesperson in Parliament, Manuela Cañadas, to the early elections in Madrid has been to fuel the theory of electoral fraud. "We expect the worst, and that is why it is essential that the elections be free and transparent," she asserted in a press conference: "We ask all citizens to go in person to vote, and to avoid voting by mail whenever they can."

Vox is trying to leave behind its "self-destruction pattern" (as defined by island councilor Maite Medrano) before the elections. Although the party usually postpones the preparation of electoral lists until the last moment, in recent weeks it has made some moves to stabilize the party internally. On one hand, the deputy in Congress and person in charge of the provincial executives for the whole State, María Ruiz, will be in Palma this Thursday to meet with elected officials. On the other hand, the party has appointed Sergio Rodríguez as the new head of Territorial Organization and, according to various sources, has reached out to former officials.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has not felt alluded to by the protests regarding the housing emergency situation in Palma and numerous points in the State. In the control session of the Executive, she has dodged the opposition's questions, insisting that evictions like that of Maricarmen Abascal, which was the spark for the citizen outburst, are the responsibility of the Spanish government. "It is not strange that those of the new 15-M shout 'Progressive, hypocritical, and rentier government'", she continued.

The Spanish government has responded to social protests over the eviction of Maricarmen Abascal and has announced the approval, this Tuesday, of a new housing decree. However, in the Islands, the left has pressured Marga Prohens' Executive because it is not applying the Housing Law that is already in force, which could help limit rental prices if areas were declared as stressed housing market zones. The Popular Party has always flatly refused, but the PSIB candidate, Rosario Sánchez, has insisted that the Government already has "tools to mitigate speculation," and MÉS per Mallorca has demanded that it "stop the bleeding" of housing by applying the regulations in force.

For the time being, Vox is leaning towards supporting the preliminary draft of the agrarian law that the Governing Council approved this Friday. Talks between this party and the PP had been stalled since June, but sources from the parliamentary group assure that an agreement in principle has been reached in the latest meeting. Santiago Abascal's party plans to approve the regulation in the Chamber, but will also present amendments to it "to improve the text," parliamentary group sources assure.

Pilar López Cabrera, 65 years old, explained this Thursday, in tears and during the Palma plenary session, the ordeal she has been living through after losing her home. "I am Spanish and have 40 years of contributions, but I have spent the whole summer sleeping in my car," she recounted. During the months of July and August, she claims she slept inside the vehicle, washed herself in establishments like Eroski or Mercadona, and showered every morning at the Ciutat Jardí showers.

The spokesperson for the Socialist parliamentary group, Iago Negueruela, raised his tone against Aena this morning. In a press conference this Monday, Negueruela distanced himself from the manager of the airport network, 51% controlled by the State. "I will not defend Aena, as I am quite against it," he stated, and accused it of having "behaviors that are inadmissible" and of turning the infrastructure into a "sort of flea market" that "is far from" offering a professional service: "It does not surprise me that people are protesting."

Parliament rejected this Thursday, with the votes of the PP and Vox, that the Director General of Social Dialogue of the Government, José Antonio Caldés, appear before the Chamber to explain the current status of the Pact for Sustainability.

President Marga Prohens has sought a direct confrontation with the PSIB in the first plenary session of the political year. During the control session for the Executive, she dodged criticism from the left regarding her tourism containment policies. Thus, she dug into the Spanish government's change of criteria regarding the Balearic law on airport co-management and the complaints from Aena, which has warned that it will try to stop it if it is approved in the Congress of Deputies. "They see our airports as a cash register," she retorted.
