The flag

https://en.arabalears.cat/opinion/the-flag_129_5845291.html

It is not the only one there is, but it usually always is. How is it that the Spanish flag, also called 'estanquera' or rojigualda, in Spanish, sooner or later ends up appearing when there is some statement or demonstration 'against' something, and so rarely in favor?I do not know the situation in Ceuta well enough to formulate an in-depth opinion on it, and that is by no means what I intend to do. All in all, I have the impression that we are facing a case where everyone has done practically everything late and poorly: the Spanish government has acted with a lack of speed only attributable to the holiday period, something unjustifiable from an institutional point of view, and the opposition parties have swooped down like hyenas on the inhabitants of the autonomous city and also on the people who have tried to enter from Morocco, only to achieve a miserable electoral gain. The Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of the State has also made an appearance, which did not take long to call for a markedly partisan mobilization with a slogan that is undoubtedly perverse and adulterated: everyone knows that the demonstrations called in front of the town halls were not so much aimed at supporting Ceuta as at protesting for the umpteenth time against the supposed 'illegitimate government' of Pedro Sánchez. Or at most, to vindicate the traces of a not-so-distant colonial past in a city that is also supposedly Spanish… In North Africa. And within this breeding ground, of course, the Spanish flag could not be missing. It is the one they bring out when they want to repress the yearnings for freedom of any of the peoples or nations that currently form part of the State (at least partially, as is the case with Euskal Herria and the Catalan Countries, which also extend into other states such as France, Andorra, and Italy). It is the one that the LGBTIQ+ community often finds right in front of their noses when the reactionary right protests against laws that protect their physical and emotional integrity. It is the flag that usually comes out during competitions and when other countries are crushed, especially in sports mostly practiced by men, and also when there are conflicts with other states, such as the United Kingdom, with Perejil, and Morocco, in this latest migratory but also territorial crisis. It is a flag that says, with three colored stripes, something similar to the “go get them” that we have heard shouted at the top of their lungs by members of the State security forces who are supposedly meant to protect citizens, and not beat them up. It is the flag of “Spain is one, and not fifty-one” (which is not usually said, naturally, in Catalan), and the one that sometimes loses the current coat of arms of the Bourbon restoration and recovers the eagle that presided over it for forty ignominious years. It is the flag of no, the flag of “tough luck,” the flag of those who strike and who unfortunately only tend to take to the streets when anger and desires for destruction push them to do so. To go against. Rarely in favor. It is not my flag.

Sánchez showed his support for Rodríguez after a meeting of more than two hours with the Spanish king, Felipe VI, in which the fires in Madrid, Ávila, and Zamora were the focus of much of the meeting. "I want to express my absolute empathy with the citizens," he remarked. Sánchez acknowledged that he has not yet spoken about the incidents with Rodríguez and pointed out that he hopes the investigation commissioned by the delegate will serve to "determine responsibilities".

The meeting comes after the historic demonstration against tourist overcrowding held in Palma, a mobilization that organizers estimated at 70,000 people, and which has reinforced the discussion on the Balearic Islands' capacity to cope with the current volume of visitors. After the meeting, Prohens defended that the policies promoted by her Executive respond to the demands expressed in the streets. At least until the next Catalan elections. The socialists are soaring in the polls and if elections were held today in Parliament, Salvador Illa would clearly win with between 39 and 45 seats, ahead of ERC (29-34) and Junts (19-24), who have been losing ground as the legislature has progressed. The results are collected by the Barometer of the Center for Opinion Studies (CEO), which was made public today, the day after Pedro Sánchez's investiture, although the polls were conducted a few weeks ago, before the PSOE's agreements with ERC and Junts. the day after Pedro Sánchez's investiture, even though the polls were conducted a few weeks ago, before the PSOE's agreements with ERC and Junts. In the July poll, the PSC was also first, but with an estimate of 31-37 seats, practically tied with Esquerra, which obtained between 31 and 36.

The PP has advanced strongly everywhere, but especially in Andalusia, in the Valencian Country and also in Madrid, in both regional and municipal elections. Now it hopes to do the same in the general elections on July 23, as all polls predict, including the CIS poll. They are, along with Catalonia, the key territories to pave the way to Moncloa. For this reason, it is in the Principality where the socialists are risking a good part of their credit. Pedro Sánchez knows that the differential he achieves with the PP in Catalonia could end up being decisive, especially if he loses momentum in other autonomies. The PSC will win the elections by a wide margin, according to the poll that the Opinòmetre Institute has conducted for ARA. With a range of between 14 and 16 deputies, the socialists will return to the first position fifteen years later. And what will be the differential with the PP? The popular party, also on the rise, capturing the majority of Cs' vote, would be left with between 5 and 7 deputies in the Spanish Congress.

At first, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, insisted that "the relationship with the United States (US) must be preserved", and avoided a frontal rejection of the war in Iran. But little by little, the popular party has been modulating its discourse. Especially since the conflict has generated a price increase in the State as a whole. In the plenary session of the Parliament this Tuesday, the first vice-president and Minister of Economy and Finance, Antoni Costa, joined Sánchez's slogan without reservations: "We say no to war, no to any war, and no to a war that has consequences on the daily lives of the Islands".

Vera emphasized the importance of establishing clear mechanisms for the measure to be effectively applied in the islands. He stated that he was "in complete agreement" with the measure and reiterated the government's hope that the situation would not repeat itself, as with the mobile phone ban, which was left to regional regulations after its national approval, and which the Balearic Islands had ultimately implemented through a specific order. The minister explained that the government wants to see how the new legal proposal will be processed and implemented, as well as how it can be applied in the islands, stressing the importance of having clear mechanisms for its implementation within the territory.

She also highlighted other initiatives already implemented in the Balearic Islands along these lines, such as the ban on digital screens up to the fourth grade of primary school and the launch of an awareness campaign for families about the risks of the "harmful overuse" of digital devices, which will be rolled out in the coming months. Despite her positive assessment, Vera considered the announcement to be "just another smokescreen" by President Sánchez, since the People's Party had already submitted an amendment to the law on the protection of minors in digital environments to propose a similar ban. Sánchez made the announcement during his speech at the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he indicated that the government will approve the measure next week in the Council of Ministers. The proposal includes, among other things, requiring platforms to implement effective age verification systems and creating a tracking and tracing system to combat hateful and illegal content. It will also address potential legal violations by platforms such as Grok, TikTok, and Instagram.

The far-right spokesman, Fulgencio Coll, described the Spanish president as "a 21st-century autocrat" who is "mired in corruption" and who was "incapable" of managing the COVID-19 pandemic and the Valencia storm. Coll criticized Sánchez for "giving in on everything to the separatist partners to remain in La Moncloa for one more day" and denounced his control over the media, the Constitutional Court, and the Bank of Spain. "It's time to remove this character from the government," Coll said. The statement as persona non grata It's a political demonstration and has no repercussions whatsoever.
