The installation of a promotional stand by the airline company Etihad Airways in Palma's Porta Pintada square has forced the Balearic Islands Blood and Tissue Bank this Thursday to move its usual activity to Plaça d'Espanya, a situation that has also altered the institutional event planned for World Blood Donor Day. The company has occupied this space to promote the new direct connection between Abu Dhabi and Mallorca, which will begin operating this Friday, June 12.

Less Tourism, More Life has already set a date for the new protest against tourist saturation in the Balearic Islands: July 26th. This Sunday, June 7th, on the steps of the Cathedral, the organization will present both this call to action and other actions planned for this summer to fight against massification and the economic and tourism model of the Archipelago.

The Balearic Islands received 958,008 travelers in April, 7.7% more than in the same period last year. According to data published this Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), these visitors have generated 4,213,066 overnight stays in hotels, tourist apartments, and rural tourism accommodations, a figure that represents an increase of 4.9% compared to April 2025.

In the song, they ironically and poignantly review the problems that this saturation derives from and how the Archipelago has become a theme park where residents are the last. In fact, the first line of the song already makes this message clear: "I come from a land that no longer wants me. Theme park, next to Hong Kong".

A new advertising poster entirely in German installed at Palma Airport has once again ignited the debate about mass tourism in Mallorca. The campaign, located on the facade of the car park building and visible from the main exit of the arrivals terminal, uses the slogan 'Was auf Malle passiert, wird auf Malle beglichen' ('what happens in Mallorca is settled in Mallorca').

Today, Friday, May 15, access restrictions to the Formentor peninsula have come into effect, a measure that this year has been brought forward by fifteen days compared to previous seasons. The limitations will remain in place until October 18, every day between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., with the aim of reducing traffic jams and adapting to the increase in visitors already registered during the month of May.

The restriction of vehicle access to Formentor begins this Friday, May 15th. This year the restriction has been brought forward by 15 days and will end on October 18th at the request of the Pollença City Council. The closure hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and access to Formentor will only be possible by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle.

Tourist overcrowding continues to occupy a good part of the political and municipal debate in Mallorca. Last Thursday, mayors, councilors, and municipal representatives from MÉS per Mallorca met in Binissalem to share the problems that, they assure, are already evident in many towns on the island, coinciding with the constant increase in visitors and pressure on the territory.

According to the same data, between January and March, the Archipelago received the visit of 836,544 international tourists, 3.37% more than in the first three months of 2025.

The Artà City Council has opened a disciplinary file against a company that organizes tourist routes in Mallorca, following actions detected recently in the municipality, which constitute a breach of current regulations. The events occurred last Tuesday, after a citizen alerted about the presence of people spray-painting in the public street. Based on this alert, the responsible company was identified, the City Council documented the facts, and has prepared the corresponding report.

The Balearic Islands received a total of 134,659 foreign tourists last January, 8.8% fewer than in the same month of 2015. These tourists spent €193 million in the archipelago, a 3% increase. This data comes from the Surveys of Tourist Movements at Borders and Tourist Expenditure published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The surveys also show that the average expenditure of foreign visitors was €1,434, 12.9% higher than in 2015. The average daily expenditure of this type of tourist was €152, 1.7% higher than in January 2015, with an average trip duration of 9.4 days, representing an 11% increase. As for the other regions, the Canary Islands lead the list with 1,427,922 tourists, followed by Catalonia with 1,010,902; Madrid with 766,365; Andalusia with 720,164; the Valencian Community with 578,720; and the Balearic Islands with 134,659, while the remaining autonomous communities account for a total of 488,523 visitors.
