It's not a new idea, but today it makes more sense than ever: has the time come for a United States of Europe? In a context of constant geopolitical friction, with the United States unleashed in its neocolonial offensive, a militarily weak Russia yet ready to undermine all the non-aggression pacts established at the end of the Cold War, and a China that is quietly growing and expanding both within and beyond its borders, the global context is complex, and I can think of few solutions more surprisingly feasible and appropriate today than this one.

The agreement concludes two intense days of negotiations among the member states. Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, celebrated the outcome, calling it a "clear success," especially considering that the European Commission's initial proposal offered only 9.7 days of annual fishing for the trawler fleet. "We have secured 143 days for our Mediterranean vessels," he stated in a message posted on social media.

I'll say it clearly: I want a time change. I say this with the calmness of someone who knows perfectly well that their opinion won't change anything, that no ordinary minister will be heading to Brussels for me to speak out, but I'm aware that, nevertheless, the sum of these small, useless declarations is precisely what gives joy to democratic life. We're here to debate everything, even what the EU will ultimately decide for us.
