The short film Un día al año, by Alfonso García, has been awarded at the Palma Mountain Film Festival, which reaches its 17th edition and dedicates a competitive section to short films about mountains, nature, adventure, and ethnography. The documentary portrays a community of climbers that has maintained a tradition since the 70s and reflects on the value of life, friendship, and the risk of losing collective bonds in an increasingly individualistic society. We speak with the director about the origin of the project and the message he wants to convey to the viewers.

Miquel Mayol Torrens, Cotó, (Petra, 1953) started working at 13 years old as a mechanic's apprentice in his hometown. He specialized as a panel beater and nowadays, once retired, he still dedicates himself to it, but only for those jobs and projects that motivate him. He has a collection of vintage cars of the SEAT brand, among which is a very 'special' one in which, however, he only wants his dog to get in.

He is a benchmark for the Catalan language in the Balearic Islands. An expert in sociolinguistics and language models, before retiring Joan Melià Garí (Porreres, 1954) was a teacher at secondary schools and at the University of the Balearic Islands, where he held the positions of associate vice-rector for Linguistic Normalization and director of the Linguistic Service. He has also been the director general of Linguistic Policy for the Government of the Balearic Islands. In 2023, he published with the publisher Lleonard Muntaner Smiling with grammar, and now he brings to light, under the same imprint, Exemplary lives, his first foray into fiction literature, a collection of thirteen stories. He acknowledges the influence of authors such as Quim Monzó and, above all, Pere Calders, to whom he pays tribute in one of the stories. On Saturday, October 17th, at 7:30 PM, he will present the book at the Cultural Association of Porreres, accompanied by Cesca Roig and Maria Muntaner.

One summer day in 2020, at 59 years old, shortly before retiring as a teacher, Toni Gornals Mesquida Pubil (Porreres, 1960) received news that would change his life. A 'new companion' would be with him for life and had a name as familiar as it was unexpected. Who hasn't heard of or said the word Parkinson's when seeing a trembling hand? We speak with this man from Porreres who faces a chronic and progressive disease with an extra boost of energy and without canceling any of the plans he had always thought of doing when he retired. Quite the opposite, he signs up for everything to keep the disease at bay.

Llorenç Brunet (Manacor, 1971) has been an architect from the Vallès School of Architecture since 1996 and founder of Llorenç Brunet i Associats SL, in 2006. He recently celebrated three decades of practice and has been attempting to transform the face of the island from the pearl city. A good opportunity to speak with him about how he has seen this evolution from a very particular and recognizable way of working.

Fausto Puerto Quetglas (Manacor, 1975), owner of the Món de Llibres bookstore in Manacor, has just published Abans que vingui la fosca (Angle Editorial, 2026), his first novel. A narrative in three chapters that revolve around the little-known figure of the German philosopher Philipp Mainländer, father of nihilism and defender of the theory of the suicide of God and the consequent helplessness of man in the universe. His life and death move some characters, separated in time, who try to find some answer and meaning before the darkness. This Friday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m. he presents it at the church of the Sant Vicenç cloister.

Joan Oliver Roig (Manacor, 2002) Cosijoan, is a rapper and History of Art student. Red cap from Manacor and Majorica pearl necklace. He has just released his first album Morir d'èxit, a real declaration of intent for a work that starts melodically but ends up being incredibly raw. He presents it next Saturday, September 12th, at Sa Factoria in Manacor.

Madita Wuiz has started over at 43 thanks to tattoos. She would never have imagined that her life would turn upside down due to an illness, nor that she would end up “finding beauty” in everything that has happened to her. Four years ago, her son Lleó was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. He was only ten months old and, since then, the family has been on a journey with one goal: for Lleó to be happy. Madita, her husband, Antonio, and their other two children, Álvaro, 21, and Nerea, 14, know that the best way to achieve this is for them to also be happy, despite the setbacks and painful moments.

They call themselves Joves d’Eivissa and they presented themselves to society last January; in their short history they have already managed to raise certain expectations; it had been a long time since, in Ibiza, a collective of young people with the intention of organizing themselves and influencing political and social life had been seen. Music has always been present in his life. He has classical training, sang in different choirs when he was young and also played in an orchestra. For years, Antonio Turiel (León, 1970), a physicist, mathematician, and CSIC researcher, has been warning that the global economic model is approaching the planet's energy limits. It is in recognition of José Ramon Gómez Lorenzo (Pedrayo, 1962) who from 1988 until this year has been the cook at the public school in the municipality. At times and amidst nostalgic memories, he explains very valid and practical tricks and recipes for any family trying to get the little ones at home to eat everything. Moncho didn't want any farewell party, but after almost 40 years of service, the event was completely inevitable.

She has led her own projects, shared the stage with some of the genre's biggest names, and this Saturday she presents in Port d'Andratx (Studio Weil) Cerebro en equipo. Llucia Serra Ferre (Eivissa, 1992) has just won the Ciutat de Manacor poetry prize with Et dibuix un portal in media something (i tu t’hi ajoques). Living in Mallorca since her adolescence, she is a philologist, a high school teacher in Son Servera, and runs a board game publishing company in Catalan, Dino Ludens. So that the reader can get an idea of her writing, in Et dibuix un portal..., she quotes and paraphrases a poem by Antonina Canyelles that says: “You can say my boat, but the sails are always the wind’s”. Llucia Serra’s version is as follows: “You can say my house / but the lands / are always the bank’s”. The poem is titled ‘Idealista’.
