For years, Antonio Turiel (León, 1970), a physicist, mathematician, and CSIC researcher, has been warning that the global economic model is approaching the planet's energy limits. The war between Israel and Iran and the tension in the Strait of Hormuz, he assures, have only accelerated a crisis he considers inevitable. Invited to Mallorca by the No Normal movement, he argues that the Balearic Islands must prepare for a future with less oil, less tourism, and greater social vulnerability. "The worst thing would be to continue thinking that everything will go back to how it was," he warns.

A few days ago, she presented the "Es Mujer" initiative in Madrid, a comprehensive state strategy for women's health, with the aim of addressing the different stages and physiological conditions of women in a unified way, such as menstruation, fertility, endometriosis or fibroids, and menopause. The presentation at the Congress of Deputies seeks to give visibility and institutional support to the project.

Llucia Serra Ferre (Eivissa, 1992) has just won the Ciutat de Manacor poetry prize with Et dibuix un portal in media something (i tu t’hi ajoques). Living in Mallorca since her adolescence, she is a philologist, a high school teacher in Son Servera, and runs a board game publishing company in Catalan, Dino Ludens. So that the reader can get an idea of her writing, in Et dibuix un portal..., she quotes and paraphrases a poem by Antonina Canyelles that says: “You can say my boat, but the sails are always the wind’s”. Llucia Serra’s version is as follows: “You can say my house / but the lands / are always the bank’s”. The poem is titled ‘Idealista’.

The world we inhabit and what we can do to improve it, respect and rootedness for language and culture, honesty and sensitivity when writing, composing and singing, poetry and close references like Ovidi Montllor, and collective dignity and freedom are the main axes on which the musical project of Andreu Valor (Cocentaina, 1978) lives and grows. He is one of the best-known singer-songwriters on the recent Valencian scene, even though he says his is a "minority proposal." He has released 12 albums since 2007; the latest, Els camins que elegim, which he will present in Mallorca on Friday, July 3, as part of the La Lluna en Vers festival program. He will be accompanied by his travel companions, musicians and producers of recent years, Blai A. Vañó́ and Héctor Tirado.

It was at the beginning of the year, on January 24th, when Ferran Palau released the album Aniversari feliç. An album of ten songs with a visual part full of fog and a protagonist: the ghost. The musician explains that the fog represents the “idea of being in heaven, in the clouds,” and the ghost is a metaphor for shedding layers: clothes, skin, until only the soul or spirit remains. “I needed to give up certain clichés that were associated with me and my music,” he says. Thus, he has removed the drums, proposing a listening experience that takes the listener to a no-place, an ethereal, light space. He will present Aniversari feliç in Mallorca on June 27th, in the garden of Casa Llorenç Villalonga, as part of the La Lluna en Vers festival. We spoke with him.

The Mundana Command will perform by surprise at Manacor's Night of Art this Saturday. The rebel group of 80 artists, dissatisfied with the organization's work by the City Council and the treatment and conditions they are given when participating, are already working to have their demands ready.

This Wednesday, June 3, and as part of the Palma Book Fair, in Plaça d’Espanya, Pere Estelrich i Massutí will present his collection of articles with a common denominator and a sufficiently eloquent title: Wagnerian Chronicles, published by Edicions Documenta Balear within the Menjavents collection. Estelrich needs no introduction. He is known on his own merits. A mathematician, he writes, disseminates and spreads wisdom everywhere: in newspapers, on the radio, wherever his knowledge is required. He writes as he speaks, clearly and entertainingly, as only someone who carries a wealth of many years and no little work, done with passion, which his words undoubtedly convey, can do.

The group Ginestà has consolidated itself as one of the most outstanding formations in the Catalan music scene, with a project that has grown from small venues to the major festivals of the Catalan Countries. Born in Sant Joan in 1998, Júlia Febrer Bausà is part of this new generation of voices that approach poetry with their own perspective, made of word, image, and matter. Her name has begun to resonate strongly within the literary landscape after winning the Ciutat de Manacor de Poesia Miquel Àngel Riera 2025 prize with Arrel inoïda, a work that confirms the solidity of an author still young, but with an already well-defined poetic universe. This recognition has been joined this year by the Martí Dot de Poesia prize, organized by the Sant Feliu de Llobregat City Council, for the poetry collection Llum de cendra, which will be published in the autumn.

Sidonie is one of the benchmark bands of Spanish alternative pop with its own discourse that, over more than two decades of career, has evolved without losing its identity. Recently, however, the Barcelona-based group made an unexpected and significant turn: their latest album, Catalan graffiti (2025), is the first entirely in Catalan. On the eve of their concert at TribuFest in Felanitx, on Friday, May 29, their singer, Marc Ros, also talks about the life stage they are going through, their doubts, their successes, and the need to reconnect with music from a freer and more essential perspective.

In a convulsed global landscape, the feeling of global and also local fragility, Xesca Martí Llodrà(Vilafranca, 1969) opens a window to hope and optimism. She has worked at the Deixalles Foundation since 1997 and has been its director since 2010. A biologist by training, an environmentalist by conviction, and a tireless activist for the social and circular economy, the Vilafranca native leads a benchmark entity in socio-labor insertion and reuse in the Balearic Islands. At a time marked by the climate crisis, inequalities, and the throwaway culture, she advocates for collective work, social commitment, and the need to put people at the center, and no, it's not just a slogan, because she dedicates a large part of her time and efforts to this goal.

Jordi Sansó and Gabriela Brunet opened Casona Can Jordi in 1974, next to the Portocristo stream. Since then, one thing has led to another. Hamburgers, hot dogs, or skewers are the specialty of a house that his son Jordi still keeps.
