The municipality plans to place 34 new cobblestones from the Stolpersteine project in memory of Pollença victims murdered or disappeared during the 1936 coup d'état and the Civil War. The initiative is part of the democratic memory recovery work that the town has kept open for years and which has a special significance in a municipality with a unique history within Francoist repression in Mallorca.

Pollença has finally approved its Heritage Catalogue, a key tool for the protection and regulation of cultural assets, after more than two decades of unsuccessful attempts. The document, validated in the ordinary plenary session in February, puts an end to a long period of gridlock and places the municipality in line with the rest of Mallorca's towns, which have had this type of instrument, required by law, for years. The delay has been significant. As the architect who drafted the catalogue, Jaume Lluís Salas, explains, "The Balearic Islands' urban planning regulations state that all municipalities must have an approved Heritage Catalogue, and Pollença has a particular situation, since attempts to approve it have been made since 2005 and, until now, have not been successful." These difficulties have prevented the municipality from having a fundamental tool for regulating growth and protecting elements of historical, architectural, and landscape value. The new catalogue covers the entire municipality and includes diverse areas such as the town center of Pollença, Port de Pollença, Cala Sant Vicenç, and the Formentor area, thus incorporating a comprehensive view of the heritage that defines the municipality's identity. It is not just an inventory of buildings, but a regulatory document that establishes how these properties and their surroundings should be managed. Until now, Pollença was among the long list of municipalities that still fail to comply with the regulations that, for decades, have required the creation of a catalogue clearly defining the properties and elements that deserve protection. Often, according to heritage experts, private interests and the fear among local councils of generating controversy with certain building owners have prevented the catalogue from being approved. It is important to remember that when an element is catalogued, its owners cannot alter its most significant features, much less demolish the house or element in question.

The project, promoted by Redeia and the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA-CSIC), has consisted of the "active restoration of Posidonia oceanica in the Bay of Pollença,” as spokespeople from both institutions explained this morning in Esporles. According to the project's final report, the survival rate of the transplanted specimens confirms the initiative's strength and effectiveness.

According to Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (the Spanish National Lottery), the winning ticket was validated at lottery outlet number 60,205, located at 8 Miquel Costa i Llobera Street and run by Pep Vallori, who has been at the helm of the business for nearly 50 years. "We are very happy, because it brings prestige to us," the owner of the establishment points out. Vallori notes that this is not the first time they have distributed a prize of this magnitude, recalling a couple of prizes of €1,000,000 or more over the years. "We are experts at distributing these kinds of prizes," he remarks. However, Vallori still doesn't know who the winner is. "It could be someone from Pollença, Palma, or who knows; lots of people come here for excursions or walks," he points out. "We only know that they placed three bets of €1.50 each," he explains.

The proposal by the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council) to reclassify a section of the old Pollença-Lluc road has drawn criticism from several groups advocating for public rights. The initiative affects the section between kilometers 3.2 and 3.4 of the road, where it passes through a property in the municipality of Pollença. GADMA and the Pro Public and Open Paths of Pollença platform have expressed their opposition to the measure. According to sources from Pro Paths, the restoration of the old Lluc road was the result of years of campaigning to prevent the closure of a route they consider clearly public. The group points out that this road was originally built by the Provincial Council and is listed in several official documents, such as the 1973 National Plan for Provincial Roads and the 1991 Pollença Municipal General Plan. Furthermore, it has been included in the inventory of assets of the Consell de Mallorca since 2008. "We are surprised that the public nature of this road was recognized and that they are now considering removing a section of it from the public domain," the platform explains. They claim that some landowners whose properties the road crosses already opposed the recovery of certain sections and fear that the Consell's decision could ultimately benefit these interests. The Pro Caminos group also warns that removing paths of interest to hikers from the public domain could represent a loss for the collective heritage. "These paths are part of our history and our landscape." "When a public path is lost, citizens' access to the natural environment is also limited," the organization points out. The mayor of Pollença, Martí March, explained that the Consell's proposal also took the City Council by surprise. "This decision surprises us because we haven't been informed of anything," he asserted. March added that the City Council will review all the documentation and files related to the case to determine if it can submit objections during the public comment period. Meanwhile, the organizations are urging the Consell de Mallorca to reconsider the proposal and guarantee the conservation and public use of this historic route in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains.

When Aznar came on, she said to me in Spanish, "They're coming back, Francisqueta, they're coming back," referring to the right wing. This is a tree with its own name, situated at a crossroads of time. Despite being slightly over 70 years old, its location at the confluence of the old road (Ma-2230), built in 1914, and the new road (Ma-10), from the mid-20th century, has made the Son Grua pine a landmark in the Pollença landscape for generations of hikers. Sheltered by the Coma mountain range and the monumental trio of peaks—the Fartàritx peak, the Ca de Míner mountain, and the Tomir mountain—the Son Grua pine is one of the most significant place names in our cultural landscape. A few steps from the tree is the Sopera bridge, inaugurated in May 2021 and dedicated to the memory of Miquel Llobera Cerdà Tureen (1955-2020), one of the leaders of the Mountain Section of the Pollença Club, promoter of the summer camps in Cala Murta and, in general, of everything related to the world of hiking.

According to Police Councilor María José Jiménez, speaking on Ràdio Pollença, the woman is unharmed but very disoriented. Finding it impossible to return home, she sought refuge in an abandoned house. The alert regarding her disappearance was issued on Thursday by her family, who also appealed for help through social media. According to a neighbor who shared the information online, González is a "short and slim woman, and in very good shape." She was wearing a dark Slam brand jacket, black sweatpants, and pink sneakers. "She usually frequents the area around the Roman Bridge, Ternelles, the Font orchard, and the old Cala road, but Calvario and other areas cannot be ruled out," the neighbor explained. The elderly woman went for a walk around 4 p.m. along the Ternelles path, and when she hadn't returned by 9 p.m., her daughter alerted the emergency services, explained the Mallorca Fire Department.

The proposal to bring the official recovery of a section of Road 77 to a plenary session, promoted by the Socialist Party, met with direct opposition from MÉS per Pollença, the coalition partner, which announced its intention to vote against it and demanded that the procedure be halted to allow for a broader debate on the consequences. The tension was not limited to the political benches. Several members of the public intervened, even without being given the floor, directly addressing the mayor and councilors with a level of aggression that nearly led to the suspension of the plenary session. Some attendees, opposed to the reopening, even presented independent studies to argue that the item should be removed from the agenda.

https://en.arabalears.cat/society/formentor-launches-urban-planning-roadmap-to-protect-the-coastline-and-curb-real-estate-pressure_1_5632895.html

The Formentor peninsula is entering a new phase of urban development. The Pollença Town Council gave initial approval this Thursday to the modification of the area's urban development plan, a lengthy and complex document that will replace the plan in force since 1990 and which, according to Mayor Martí March, represents "one of the most significant achievements of the current legislative term in terms of urban planning." This initial approval now opens a 45-day period for public comment, following the Town Council's submission of the necessary documentation in January: the amended urban planning regulations, the environmental impact assessment, and the new urban land use plan for Formentor. March argued that the new plan responds to a clear need for updating. "We're talking about a completely outdated plan, 35 years old. It was essential to have a document adapted to the present day and with a future perspective," he stated. The mayor also acknowledged the difficulty of the process: "It has been hard work, in a short time, all with the aim of reaching provisional and final approval with the broadest possible consensus." This consensus, he explained, was sought through meetings with municipal groups, associations of owners of villas and plots in Formentor, individual owners, the Formentor real estate agency, and the GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group). "There has been a clear commitment to ensuring the maximum possible participation," March emphasized, insisting that the ultimate goal is to have a plan "with long-term sustainability." Protecting the seafront and creating more green spaces

One of the central pillars of the new document is the protection of the seafront. The plan aims to keep the first line of the coast free of buildings, with the goal of preventing new construction that would create a visual impact and degrade the landscape. This approach follows the urban development moratorium approved a year ago by the full municipal council, which suspended the granting of new licenses in Formentor while the new regulatory framework was being drafted. "Formentor is a jewel that all the residents of Pollença understand as such," said the mayor, who defended the need to preserve its image and natural values. Along the same lines, the new plan reinforces the public character of the space and significantly increases the area designated for green spaces, from approximately 37,000 square meters to nearly 45,000. It also aims to maintain the existing tree cover and strengthen the structure of public spaces. Likewise, the amount of land eligible for urban development is reduced: from the 81,000 square meters previously planned to 60,000. The document also aims to decrease real estate pressure, eliminate auxiliary housing, and maintain the current number of houses, without any increase in the housing stock.
