The agreement of the PP with Vox to maximize results in the Senate has strained this Tuesday's control session of the Government. President Marga Prohens has sought to distance herself from the far right throughout the legislature, but now, the Balearic PP will have to incorporate a representative of Vox in the second place of the list for the Senate for Mallorca. In exchange, it will not present a list in any of the Balearic Islands. Prohens has defended the agreement by underlining that the PP has not "renounced either its acronyms or its principles", while the spokesperson for the PSIB, Iago Negueruela, responded that "they are the same and will be the same".

After the looting in Barcelona and the riots in Bilbao called by the Blocus group, a protest call appeared this Tuesday in Palma. It has the same signature and, although it presents itself as "peaceful", it warns: "We will loot shops if we are attacked", as reported by Diario de Mallorca. The news has set off alarms in the Government. In the control session at the Parliament, President Marga Prohens labeled the protest as "kale borroka" and demanded that the Spanish government's Delegation have police forces ready to act.

PSIB spokesperson Iago Negueruela has kicked off the second session of the general policy debate. After the president, Marga Prohens, announced new tax cuts to facilitate young people's access to housing, the socialist deemed these announcements insufficient and accused her of "wasting three and a half years for society". "She removes taxes for young people, but how much does a house cost? 400,000 euros", he criticized. "How much does a young person earn in these Islands? They cannot pay for a house, live in an apartment, or rent a room", he continued: "This is your track record".

Núria Hinojosa will once again repeat as the socialist candidate for the mayoralty of Manacor. The general secretary of the local Socialist Group has announced her intention to be the head of the party's list and thus opt for the municipality's mayoralty with a view to the upcoming municipal elections that will take place on May 23rd. The announcement was formalized during a session of the Group's Executive Commission, where Hinojosa became the candidate to lead the list of the Socialists of Manacor.

The speech that the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, gave this Tuesday in the last general policy debate of the legislature had one of its high points when Prohens announced that she would allocate funds from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) to build public housing, a measure that she herself repealed at the beginning of the legislature. This has been one of the points criticized by the left, which applauded and unsettled Prohens at the moment she announced it from the lectern of the plenary hall.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, called the general policy debate this Tuesday, the 20th, without much ceremony. While she usually summoned the parliamentary groups to announce the date to them, on this occasion she limited herself to communicating it through a letter addressed to the President of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne. Although general policy debates serve to examine the Executive's action, in which it usually announces measures to address structural issues, on this occasion the opposition parties have few expectations due to the fact that the plenary session is too close to the general election campaign.

The PSIB has bet on the party's current spokesperson at the Council of Mallorca, Catalina Cladera, as its candidate for the Senate elections. Socialist sources assure that negotiations with MÉS per Mallorca to form a joint candidacy on the four islands are still ongoing but are on the right track, and they hope to be able to announce that there is an agreement this very Friday. In parallel, the party has also decided that the current senator, Pere Joan Pons, will replace Alfonso Rodríguez as the Spanish government delegate in the Islands, following the latter's resignation to focus on the municipal elections in Calvià.

"We are going out to win." This has been the declaration of intent by the President of Congress, Francina Armengol, this Thursday at the presentation of the PSIB list for the upcoming general elections. The former Balearic president has called for the mobilization of the female vote against the right and the far-right and has shown herself to be "convinced" that the negotiations with MÉS to present joint candidacies for the Senate "will bear fruit": "We are working full time in this direction".

Virgilio Moreno has been the latest municipal candidate confirmed in Mallorca, after having been elected this past week by unanimity by the socialist group of Inca to head the list for the 2027 municipal elections. Moreno has been the mayor of Inca since June 2015, nearly eleven and a half years ago. He was a candidate for the PSIB-PSOE in 2015, 2019, and 2023, and by heading the list for 2027, it will be the fourth time he has run.

MÉS per Palma and the PSOE have asked the Palma City Council to investigate how the data regarding the municipal financial aid received by Pilar López has been leaked, the 65-year-old woman who slept in a car for two months after losing her home and who publicly denounced her situation before the Parliament and at the Cort plenary session.

The first plenary session after the calling of the general elections has turned into an open war between the right-wing bench and the left-wing bench over housing. The PSIB has signed up to Pedro Sánchez's plans, who has started the pre-campaign by approving 21 housing measures, and has brought a bill to request that the Islands be declared a stressed area and to force a pronouncement from the PP and Vox. But, furthermore, it has invited both socialist mayors and Pilar López, an evicted woman, and union representatives to Parliament to put pressure on the Government.

In tears, an evicted woman confronted the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, this Tuesday after the Government control session in Parliament. It is 65-year-old Pilar López, who already appeared at City Hall to denounce her situation: having been evicted by an investment fund after 40 years of contributions and despite having a spinal cord injury. The president approached her to speak, but she lashed out at the PSIB deputy who was accompanying her and, according to the woman's account, warned her: "They are using you." She, in turn, told her: "I voted for you."

Housing has returned to be the center of the debate this Tuesday in Parliament. All left-wing parties have pressured the Government during the parliamentary session to demand rent price controls. According to IBAVI data that the Housing Ministry has provided in a written response to the PSIB, prices have gone from an average of 834 euros per month in 2022 to 1390 euros per month in 2025, a 66.7% increase in just three years.

The President of the Congress, Francina Armengol, is emerging as the favorite option to lead the PSIB's candidacy in the general elections on November 29th. The party's candidate for the regional elections, Rosario Sánchez, recalled in a press conference that Armengol had already put herself forward last June, when she announced that she would not run in the regional elections. "She would be a fantastic head of the list," she explained. However, the final decision will be made after a primary election process.

The PSIB-PSOE will force Llorenç Galmés's government to pronounce itself again on the Tirme concession. The socialists will defend a motion in the next plenary session of the Consell de Mallorca to suspend the processing of the 2026 waste tariff and halt the payment of the 41.4 million euros approved this summer until the real costs of the service have been reviewed. The initiative also incorporates a new front: it demands a review of the 50 million committed by the Government of the Balearic Islands for the transport and treatment of Ibiza's waste in Mallorca, after the PSIB denounced that 41 million have already been transferred without any economic report to justify the amount.

The President of the Government, Marga Prohens, has not felt alluded to by the protests regarding the housing emergency situation in Palma and numerous points in the State. In the control session of the Executive, she has dodged the opposition's questions, insisting that evictions like that of Maricarmen Abascal, which was the spark for the citizen outburst, are the responsibility of the Spanish government. "It is not strange that those of the new 15-M shout 'Progressive, hypocritical, and rentier government'", she continued.

The Spanish government has responded to social protests over the eviction of Maricarmen Abascal and has announced the approval, this Tuesday, of a new housing decree. However, in the Islands, the left has pressured Marga Prohens' Executive because it is not applying the Housing Law that is already in force, which could help limit rental prices if areas were declared as stressed housing market zones. The Popular Party has always flatly refused, but the PSIB candidate, Rosario Sánchez, has insisted that the Government already has "tools to mitigate speculation," and MÉS per Mallorca has demanded that it "stop the bleeding" of housing by applying the regulations in force.

The Pedro Sánchez government has become an obstacle to the PSIB's strategy in recent weeks. The Balearic socialists have focused on criticizing tourist overcrowding, but the pronouncements from the Ministry of the Presidency and Aena against the co-management of the islands' airports, added to the forecasts that 50 million passengers will be reached by 2031, contradict their discourse. “It makes us very uncomfortable,” admits a source from the party apparatus. Although its leaders have chosen to distance themselves from Madrid and claim their own position, the situation creates tension within the party, especially because their candidate for the elections, Rosario Sánchez, is the current Secretary of State for Tourism.

The real estate developers of the Islands have requested that the Urban Planning Law be modified to allow construction even if the water supply is not formally guaranteed. At a time of water resource scarcity, PSIB deputy Amanda Fernández questioned the Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, on this issue. During the control session in Parliament, the minister avoided taking a stance on this topic, but insisted that water availability is one thing, and the legal processing of it is another. "They neither do it themselves nor let others do it," he retorted to the PSIB in statements reported by Europa Press.

The PSIB pressured the Government this Tuesday following the legalization of several luxury villas on rustic land in Sant Josep de sa Talaia (Ibiza) thanks to the urban planning amnesty it promoted two years ago. After ARA Balears uncovered the case, the socialist deputy Àlex Pitaluga accused the Executive of promoting a model of "luxury" and "consumption of territory and water," since in the midst of a water crisis these homes have swimming pools on protected land.
