The history of the art trade in Mallorca cannot be understood without the emergence, at the end of the 19th century, of a society that turned painting into an object of desire and a business capable of moving significant capital. We are talking about the Foment de la Pintura i Escultura, a social entity active in the city between 1876 and 1904, but about which little has been said until now. The restorer of works of art José María Pardo Falcón now reconstructs that collective adventure in the essay-book "La sociedad del Fomento de la Pintura y Escultura. Palma 1876-1904", edited by Ensiola and with a prologue by professor Catalina Cantarellas. The volume will be presented on May 7 at the Quars bookstore, in a conversation between the author and Cantarellas herself.

The Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró will host until next September 6 three new temporary exhibitions by artists Carlos Bunga, Claudio Zulian, and Jean Marie del Moral. The shows open this Wednesday and will occupy various spaces within the institution.

The 6A Workshop and Gallery begins its exhibition year with the first solo show on the island by Fernando Clemente (Jerez de la Frontera, 1975). The artist previously participated in the group exhibition. Sarrià at the end of 2024.

This year, it's once again part of the program for the fourteenth edition of Evolution, taking place these days in Palma, and this time it features two new documentary short films: In the name of flowers and Both wells.

Christian Lawyers has filed a complaint with a Mallorcan court against Sebastián Palmer, a member of the PSIB (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) in Calvià City Hall, and artists Baaldo and Domi Shameless for the "highly sexual content" of their performance at one of the events during the Peguera festival.

A significant portion of the more than 7,500 concerts organized throughout 2023, according to data from the latest Yearbook of Cultural Statistics, took place during the months of July and August. In total, popular music performances and festivals that year raised more than 6.5 million euros, a million more than just a year earlier. And the offering has only grown over the years.
