The legislature has been a "black four-year period" for the language and culture of the Balearic Islands. This is the assessment made by the president of the Obra Cultural Balear, Antoni Llabrés, after attending the third and final general policy debate of the term, which, according to the entity, has confirmed the bad omens it had at the beginning of the legislature.

The Obra Cultural Balear (OCB) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) are organizing the conference series The language that is sung. Music and linguistic normalization (1986-2026), which began this Thursday and will continue until Saturday at Ca n’Oleo, in Palma. In Mallorca, 81.85% of families have chosen Catalan as the primary language of instruction for their children, in 4th grade of early childhood education, or in other words, four out of every five families have opted for Catalan. This is not just another piece of data; it is a political and social message of enormous significance and, above all, a resounding refutation of the narrative that the Government of the Balearic Islands has attempted to construct around language and schooling.

The Cathedral of Mallorca was the setting this Sunday for a grand concert in tribute to Joan Alcover, coinciding with the centenary of the first performance in Mallorca of La Balanguera set to music by Amadeu Vives. More than 200 educational centers in Mallorca have already confirmed their participation in the great simultaneous singing of La Balanguera promoted by Obra Cultural Balear on the occasion of the centenary of the musical premiere of the poem by Joan Alcover with music by Amadeu Vives. The initiative will take place next Friday, May 29, and will turn schools, squares, and public spaces throughout the island into stages for a collective celebration around the Mallorcan anthem.

The central reception event of the Flama del Correllengua Agermanat in Mallorca, organized by Joves de Mallorca per la Llengua and l'Obra Cultural Balear, filled the Plaza de España in Palma this Sunday, highlighting "the commitment" of Mallorcan society to the Catalan language. This year marks the tenth edition of the Correllengua passing through Mallorca since the first one in 1995.
