A 49-year-old man and his two dogs died this Thursday at their home in the town of Petra, possibly from gas inhalation. The Civil Guard received a report of the deaths from a friend of the victim and dispatched a patrol to the residence. The Civil Guard indicated that upon arrival, both officers and paramedics detected a strong smell of gas inside the house. Finally, at 4:00 PM, the body was removed and taken to the Forensic Institute for an autopsy, although the likely cause of death is gas poisoning.

The process of expropriations, temporary occupations, and the creation of the necessary easements for the construction of the new main water pipeline connecting Maria de la Salut and Sineu has already begun. This announcement was made last Saturday by the Director General of Water Resources, Joan Calafat, during the Water Debate in the Pla region, organized by Pla de Mallorca XXI and the Climate Academy, with the collaboration of the Pla Commonwealth, held in Lloret. This project, considered strategic for guaranteeing the water supply to the center of the island, aims to carry water from Maria de la Salut to the plot of land purchased by the Commonwealth in the Dama area, on the road between Sineu and Petra. This process comes at a particularly critical time for the Pla de Mallorca, which, according to Calafat, is "in a state of emergency" after water availability fell to 44% in October 2025. Calafat warned that "we cannot be complacent" and argued that the next Plan demands measures to reduce pollution and enhance water regeneration. The new pipeline, about which the affected residents, almost all of them from the municipality of Sineu, have already been notified, is part of the Program of Measures of the Hydrological Plan for the Balearic Islands Hydrographic Demarcation, approved by Royal Decree 49/2023. An unfavorable report from the Historical Heritage Service of the Consell de Mallorca, issued on October 2nd, halted the construction of the parking facilities that the Petra Town Council awarded in early July. The construction contract, worth €527,308, was awarded to the company Melchor Mascaró, and in fact, work has not yet begun. This mandatory report from the Heritage Service, issued in early October, which ultimately rejected the project, had not yet been issued when the project was put out to tender. The parking facility is planned for a municipal plot of land located behind the Petra parish church. It includes a total of 60 spaces, 44 of which will be underground. From an urban planning perspective, it's backwards: a subsidiary use cannot be implemented exclusively without the implementation of one of the permitted uses."

The municipalities of Llubí and Petra have taken an important step in protecting and providing controlled access to their prehistoric and natural heritage with the purchase of the Racons and the Cueva del Buitre (Vulture Cave), respectively. With the support of the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) and corresponding municipal investments, two plots of land of significant heritage value have recently been acquired, and work will begin on their restoration, accessibility, and management.
