According to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the day will begin with intervals of clouds and showers with thunderstorms that could be locally heavy and accompanied by light rain until morning, especially in Menorca and northern Mallorca. As the day progresses, the sky will tend to clear in the Pitiusas Islands, where a more stable and partly cloudy atmosphere is expected by evening. The snow level will be around 1,000 meters and will rise throughout the day. Nighttime temperatures have dropped significantly, while daytime temperatures will also experience a slight decrease. But the main feature of the day will be the north and northwest wind, which will blow moderately to strongly and occasionally very strongly, especially in Menorca.

The force of the wind and the pounding waves have completely devastated the beaches of Binigaus, Sant Tomàs, and Sant Adeodat, in the municipality of Migjorn Gran, as well as the first stretch of Son Bou (Alaior), the island's longest beach. In the case of Son Bou, the remaining almost two and a half kilometers of coastline are now reduced to just a third of their original dune system. This significant reduction in sand has sparked concern among the affected municipalities just over two months before the official start of the tourist season.

One of the most visible cases occurred at the entrance to the Son Noguera industrial park in Llucmajor, where the road was completely flooded, making driving extremely dangerous, as shown in images released by the Balearic Islands Meteorological Service. Given the circumstances, the 112 Emergency Service activated an orange alert (level 1 of the Meteobal Plan) across all the islands due to rain, wind, and coastal phenomena, and ordered the suspension of all scheduled outdoor sports competitions and training sessions. The storm also affected air traffic. According to Aena, two flights departing from Palma Airport were canceled, and two others were diverted to different airports in the archipelago. In addition, a flight from Alicante to Palma was canceled due to strong winds, while an Amsterdam-Ibiza flight had to be diverted to Palma and another, between Barcelona and Palma, had to land in Menorca. Delays were also reported on several inter-island connections and flights to other cities in Spain. The 112 emergency service reiterated its recommendation to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flood-prone areas and the coast, secure outdoor objects that could be blown away by the wind, and stay informed through official channels. Nearly 80 incidents

The 112 Emergency Coordination Center handled a total of 79 incidents between noon and 8 p.m. on Wednesday related to the storm. According to Emergency Services, the majority of incidents occurred in Ibiza (49), while 17 were in Mallorca and 12 in Formentera. On the island of Ibiza, 16 incidents took place in the municipality of Ibiza Town, 14 in Sant Josep, nine in Santa Eulària, six in Sant Antoni, and four in Sant Joan. Among the incidents across the islands, 19 were fallen trees, 15 were landslides, 14 were trees falling onto roads, ten were urban elements dislodged, seven were liquid obstacles on roads, and six were flooded public roads.

Intense gusts and waves up to four meters high are expected, especially in the most exposed areas. In Ibiza and Formentera, the alert covers the entire island. Westerly winds could reach gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour, with associated rough seas. In Mallorca, the alert is focused on the south of the island, the Levante region, and the Tramuntana mountain range. Locally intense storms are possible in these areas, with wind gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour, precipitation with small hail, and waves up to four meters high. In Menorca, Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) warns of adverse coastal conditions, with westerly winds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and rough seas, with waves that could reach three meters. This episode of unstable weather is linked to Storm Ingrid, which is affecting much of Spain this Saturday. Snowfall is expected in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula above 300 to 500 meters, while waves could exceed eight meters along the Galician coast and other parts of the Cantabrian Sea, in a weekend marked by numerous weather warnings.

The orange alert for coastal phenomena, which activates level 1 of the Meteobal Plan, affects Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, while the yellow alert for wind is in effect on all the islands. Menorca is the only island with a specific alert for rain. Aemet maintains the yellow alert for rain in Ibiza, Formentera, and the Tramuntana mountain range until 6:00 PM, while the wind alert will remain in effect until the same time in the Pitiusas Islands and the North Island, until midnight, and until midnight. Gusts of between 70 and 80 km/h are expected. Regarding the wind, very strong gusts have been recorded in the last 24 hours, with a maximum of 105.8 km/h in the Alfàbia mountain range and 96.1 km/h in Cabrera. As for precipitation, the rain was persistent and left up to 100 liters per square meter in the Tramuntana mountain range. Authorities recommend taking extreme precautions, especially on the coast, avoiding areas exposed to strong waves, and securing objects that could be blown away by the wind, as well as staying informed through official channels.

According to the City Council, due to circumstances beyond its control and following the bidding process, the artists scheduled for this plaza have been awarded to Deejaysgrup, as the initially selected company did not submit the required documentation correctly. The City Council also announced that the "horabauxa" will take place in Plaza Mayor, which will host musical acts such as Gintonics Band, La Canción del Verano (The Song of the Summer), and Madison. The San Sebastián concerts will kick off this Friday in Plaza de España with the official start of the musical program and a headline performance by Crystal Fighters. Aemet weather forecast.

However, it should be noted that the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts rain for this Saturday, January 17th, the day of the San Sebastián festivities in Palma, including the "horabauxes" (fireworks displays) and the blessings of Saint Anthony, among other events such as bonfires and traditional dances. Specifically, the Agency indicates that this Friday the sky will be cloudy, although the probability of rain is low. Temperatures will range between a low of 8 and 11 degrees Celsius and a high of 15 and 16 degrees Celsius. Winds will generally be light, from the west and southwest. The sky will remain overcast on Saturday, with rain highly likely or even guaranteed, according to Aemet. The rain will become more frequent and intense from midday onwards, and thunderstorms are possible. Temperatures will be similar to Friday's, although the highs could drop slightly, to around 14 degrees Celsius. The wind will be light to moderate from the south. The Palma City Council has indicated that, despite the possibility of showers, the program remains unchanged and any updates will be announced as soon as possible.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for rain in the Pitiusas Islands this Thursday, with accumulated rainfall that could reach 60 liters per square meter in 12 hours. Warnings for rough seas have also been issued for Menorca and the north and northeast of Mallorca. In these northern areas of the archipelago, the coastal warning is due to northerly winds with gusts of between 50 and 60 kilometers per hour (force 7) and waves that could reach three meters, with a northerly swell. In Ibiza and Formentera, the rain alert was activated in the early hours and will remain in effect throughout the day, with rainfall that could be locally heavy. The Balearic Islands are among the six autonomous communities under weather warnings this Christmas Day, along with Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and León, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community, due to various phenomena such as rain, snow, low temperatures, and rough seas. The most significant warning at the national level is an orange alert for the Girona coast, where strong gusts of wind and waves of up to five meters are expected. In Catalonia, there are also yellow alerts for rain in several areas, some of which may be accompanied by thunderstorms. Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) recommends taking extreme precautions, especially in coastal areas affected by rough seas and when traveling during this holiday.

The Balearic Islands are already preparing for what many experts anticipate will be one of the most complex—and massive—events of recent decades: the total solar eclipse of August 12, 2026. The phenomenon, which will occur shortly before sunset and has not been visible in the archipelago for over [number of] years of astronomical observation, is expected to draw an extraordinary influx of visitors, scientists, and enthusiasts. In anticipation of this, the Balearic Government has decided to preempt potential organizational chaos and has approved the creation of the Commission for the Management of Actions Related to the 2026 Total Eclipse, a cross-cutting, collegiate body that will coordinate all actions linked to the event. The agreement was adopted by the Governing Council at its session of December 12, 2025, and will come into effect the day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB). An astronomical phenomenon with an impact far beyond the sky

The eclipse is not only an exceptional scientific event, but also a major logistical challenge. Mobility, public safety, civil protection, natural space management, institutional communication, and scientific outreach are just some of the areas that will be affected. The Government acknowledges that the international appeal of the phenomenon could strain key infrastructure, especially in the middle of August. In this context, the Executive is invoking the broad regional powers granted to it by the Statute of Autonomy—in transport, emergencies, tourism, the environment, research, and civil protection—to justify the need for comprehensive and coordinated planning. The goal is to avoid improvisation and ensure an efficient response to any incidents arising from the eclipse. Institutional coordination and a scientific perspective

The new commission is attached to the Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, and Local Cooperation, and will include representatives from various directorates general, especially those for Emergencies and Interior, Coordination and Local Cooperation, and Communication and Open Government. The involvement of astronomy associations and scientific and outreach organizations is also planned. According to the Government, the body will be responsible for ensuring both the safety and management of large gatherings of people and leveraging the phenomenon as an opportunity for scientific, educational, and tourism promotion of the Islands. The aim is to combine scientific rigor, high-quality outreach, and environmental protection. An exceptional event at a critical time.

The fact that the eclipse will occur before sunset and in the middle of summer increases the complexity of the operation. Natural areas, viewpoints, beaches, and elevated spaces could become mass viewing points, with the consequent environmental and safety risks if not managed properly. With the creation of this commission, the Balearic Government acknowledges that the 2026 eclipse will be much more than an astronomical spectacle: it will be a litmus test for the Balearic Islands' capacity for institutional coordination and for managing an exceptional event in a limited and highly pressured territory.

According to Jorge Rodríguez, Aemet's spokesperson in the Balearic Islands, speaking to Europa Press, Friday will begin with cloudy skies and some occasional showers, especially in Menorca and northern Mallorca, with skies clearing during the afternoon. Nighttime temperatures will rise, while daytime temperatures will remain stable. Winds will be moderate from the northwest, with occasional strong gusts. For this reason, Aemet has issued a yellow alert for coastal phenomena in Ibiza, Formentera, and the north and northeast of Mallorca, with gusts expected between 60 and 70 kilometers per hour (km/h). Additionally, there will be a yellow alert for wind in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, where gusts could reach 80 km/h.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a week marked by a drop in temperature, strong gusts of wind, and a maritime storm that could bring waves of up to four meters in Menorca and northern Mallorca. According to Miquel Gili, Aemet's deputy spokesperson in the Balearic Islands, there is still a possibility of showers, thunderstorms, and even light rain in northern Mallorca this Tuesday, while the rest of the island will experience mostly clear skies. Northerly winds have blown strongly in recent hours, with gusts of 70 km/h recorded in Cabrera, 50 km/h in Ibiza, and up to 80 km/h in the Alfàbia mountain range. A yellow alert for coastal phenomena has been activated in the coastal areas of all the islands, with waves that could reach three or four meters. This alert will be gradually deactivated throughout the day, except in Menorca where it will remain in effect due to the persistence of the storm. Wednesday will see a significant drop in temperature. While this morning the minimum temperatures were around 15°C in many parts of the Balearic Islands, they are expected to fall to 2-8°C on Wednesday night into Thursday. Maximum temperatures, on the other hand, will remain between 12 and 16°C. Coastal warnings also remain in place, with waves that could exceed four meters in Menorca and northern Mallorca. Thursday will continue to be variable, with intervals of cloudiness and the possibility of some showers. The Tramontana wind will continue to blow strongly in Menorca, with gusts between 50 and 70 km/h, and the minimum temperature could reach 0 or even -1 °C in southern Mallorca, with a risk of nighttime frost. Maximum temperatures will remain unchanged, and maritime warnings will continue to be in effect. On Friday, overcast skies will persist in Menorca and northern Mallorca, with a chance of occasional showers, which will tend to clear as the day progresses. In the rest of the archipelago, skies will be partly cloudy. The wind will shift to the west, allowing the maximum temperature to rise to 15-19 °C and eliminating the risk of frost. The weekend will begin with milder temperatures and high clouds with no precipitation. However, a new cold front is expected to arrive on Sunday, which could bring some isolated showers to all the islands.
