This initiative, promoted by Apaema and funded by the Mallorca Preservation Foundation, allows farmers to establish new plantations with minimal financial investment, while simultaneously strengthening the resilience of organic agriculture by prioritizing projects that use local varieties adapted to climate change. The main objective of the project "is to stimulate and promote fruit tree projects rather than simply focusing on the number of trees planted," explain sources at Apaema. The financial contributions are intended as a catalyst for launching productive activities that can ultimately expand. All of this is aimed at "recovering and ensuring a future for the production and marketing of local fruit, which is clearly in decline."

"We've grown in both members and production compared to last year," confirms Rosa Andreu, head of S'Obrador. Due to the increased production, the facilities "have become too small," Andreu explains. In fact, she admits that Apaema is considering expanding S'Obrador, although she clarifies that "nothing is concrete at the moment." "We know that at some point we'll have to increase its capacity, but we'll see when that happens," she insists.

They also regret that the law is not being used to "promote true food sovereignty and to seriously help make agricultural activity viable on the islands," according to spokespersons for these associations told ARA Baleares. There are some points of agreement among the organizations and professionals who have presented objections, particularly regarding criticism of the urban, tourist, and speculative orientation of the countryside, which instead focuses on improving food production, which "is the basis of any agricultural regulation." The environmentalists are calling for the government to withdraw the law as drafted.

This temperature increase adds to the difficult situation facing the Balearic Islands' countryside, which has already suffered firsthand—and continues to suffer—the consequences of climate change: drought, decreased production of some varieties, and an increased risk of disease in animals, among others. farmers They are forced to accept losses and, in addition, to make investments to try to mitigate the effects of adverse weather conditions as much as possible.
