The initial intention of this project was to “make accessible” a repertoire that had profoundly struck Marc Vilajuana. Approximately ten years ago, he discovered Gregorian chant and was fascinated by this sonic universe. “Beyond the spiritual aspect, it is the foundation of Western music. It is with Gregorian chant that musical writing begins in the West, as until then music had been transmitted orally,” he points out.

After exploring the traditional repertoire from a contemporary perspective in their early works, Tarta Relena delved into tragic thought, oracles, and humanity's relationship with the uncertainty of the future to write and perform És pregunta (2024), an album produced entirely by the duo formed by Helena Ros and Marta Torrella. With the maxim 'less is more' as their banner, Tarta Relena offers a set of songs that narrate impermanence and turn their live performance into a ritual. Voices are the main instrument, and the different languages they sing in bring different "worldviews" to the album. They will present it on July 31st in the garden of Casa Llorenç Villalonga in Binissalem as part of the La Lluna en Vers festival. We spoke with one of them, Marta Torrella.

“When you bit me, God left saliva / inside the wound and the coolness of his great lip. / And the saliva flooded my blood. / And a voice full of nests was born in me”. The set of verses is from the poem ‘Soledat oberta’ (Open Solitude), included in the book Entre el coral i l’espiga (Between the Coral and the Ear of Corn) published in 1952. The author is Blai Bonet, of whom this year marks the centenary of his birth – and a voice, indeed full of nests, which still spreads everywhere. The last verse of this stanza gives its name to what will be the central spectacle of the Blai Bonet Year, a production by the Fundació Mallorca Literària that aims to vindicate the relevance of one of the most unique voices in Catalan literature and invite the public to rediscover it through a journey along the paths of his great themes.

The world we inhabit and what we can do to improve it, respect and rootedness for language and culture, honesty and sensitivity when writing, composing and singing, poetry and close references like Ovidi Montllor, and collective dignity and freedom are the main axes on which the musical project of Andreu Valor (Cocentaina, 1978) lives and grows. He is one of the best-known singer-songwriters on the recent Valencian scene, even though he says his is a "minority proposal." He has released 12 albums since 2007; the latest, Els camins que elegim, which he will present in Mallorca on Friday, July 3, as part of the La Lluna en Vers festival program. He will be accompanied by his travel companions, musicians and producers of recent years, Blai A. Vañó́ and Héctor Tirado.

It was at the beginning of the year, on January 24th, when Ferran Palau released the album Aniversari feliç. An album of ten songs with a visual part full of fog and a protagonist: the ghost. The musician explains that the fog represents the “idea of being in heaven, in the clouds,” and the ghost is a metaphor for shedding layers: clothes, skin, until only the soul or spirit remains. “I needed to give up certain clichés that were associated with me and my music,” he says. Thus, he has removed the drums, proposing a listening experience that takes the listener to a no-place, an ethereal, light space. He will present Aniversari feliç in Mallorca on June 27th, in the garden of Casa Llorenç Villalonga, as part of the La Lluna en Vers festival. We spoke with him.

“I’m interested in concerts having a more scenic space, that music becomes a much broader spectacle”. Maria Arnal thus summarizes the philosophy of the live performances she proposes with AMA, her first solo work after closing the stage in 2022 with Marcel Bagés. The artist could also be describing the spirit of the new edition of La Lluna en Vers, the festival of the Fundació Mallorca Literària, which this year also bets on hybridization, research and different ways of understanding the relationship between music and words. This Saturday, June 20, she will present the album AMA in Mallorca. It will be a concert in Consolació, Sant Joan, and will inaugurate this summer's La Lluna en Vers festival. 

The summer festival La Lluna en Vers returns in 2026 to Mallorca with a program of 14 nights of open-air culture spread across different points of the island and an image marked by the eclipse of August 12, which this year inspires the visual and symbolic narrative of the project.

Beatriz del Monte was born in Madrid in 1994, but grew up in Villamayor de Santiago, a village in Cuenca. When she visits her godmother's house, she discovers the patience, love, and transformation that cooking entails. She learns popular sayings and proverbs. She sees in the clothes on the line (underwear, socks, tablecloths) the exposure of people's dirty patches, evidence of sensitivity and humanity. The ladles, pots, and any object in the domestic landscape hide a story that she tries to decipher with her musical project, Bewis de la Rosa, which released its debut album in 2023. Love more than everThis Saturday, August 30th, he will present it in Mallorca, as part of the La Luna en Vers festival, on the Molinar de Montuïri esplanade.

"The first thing you should know is that Víctor Català – pseudonym of Caterina Albert – wanted to be a playwright." This is what Albert Arribas, the director of the play, says. Verbagalia, a piece that puts into dialogue two of the most representative monologues of Catalan theatre: The aunt and VerbagaliaThe production can be seen this Saturday, August 23, in the courtyard of the Llorenç Villalonga house in Binissalem as part of the La Luna en Verso festival of the Mallorca Literary Foundation. This is an opportunity to discover the plays Català wrote before becoming a narrator, short story writer, and novelist, popularly known for titles such as Loneliness and Rural dramas. In fact, Caterina Albert's plays, explains the play's director, "were never performed," despite being "of the highest quality." The reason? "They didn't understand him," Arribas points out.

Selva Nua is a group born in Lleida at the end of 2020, just before the pandemic. Adrià Garcia and Gerard Català were looking for a singer to form a band and met Joana Jové. They quickly realized they shared inspirations and ideas, so the lockdown pushed them to get serious about recording a self-financed album. "It was a somewhat casual start, but very exciting," recalls the group's vocalist. On Saturday, August 16, they will perform in the garden of the Llorenç Villalonga House Museum in Binissalem, as part of the Mallorca Literary Foundation's festival, La Luna en Verso. Musician Pol Mitjans joined the project after Gerard Català left.

Soleá Morente, daughter of singer Enrique Morente and dancer Aurora Carbonell, will spread the flamenco spirit that runs through her veins to every corner of the Sanctuary of Consolación de San Juan. The singer will perform during the big night of the La Luna en Verso festival, on August 9, with a double concert that will also feature the artist Niño de Elche. Soleá will arrive in Mallorca with a diverse repertoire: she will perform songs by Calm sea, of What you lack and other albums, as well as some pieces from the new album SIRIUS B, due out in September. She'll be accompanied by two guitarists: Rubén Campos, a flamenco guitarist from Granada, and Gonzalo Navarro, an electric guitarist from Huelva. "It will be a night to bare your soul, in an acoustic format, with very different emotions than those that appear when we do concerts with a band," the singer notes.

If he doesn't write, he sings; if he doesn't sing, he composes; if he doesn't compose, he reads or prepares some kind of performance, who knows in what format. Paco Contreras, known artistically as Niño de Elche, is an artist who works in different fields because he doesn't know how to do it any other way: he likes experimentation, contradiction, and, above all, knowing what he wants to say: "The format comes later, but it's important to know the message." On Saturday, August 9, he will be at the Santuario de Consolación de San Juan, along with Soleá Morente, during the great flamenco night of the Fundación Mallorca Literaria's La Luna en Verso festival. He's not presenting any album: he'll give a concert that will have two parts. "The first will be more focused on guitars, with a sound close to flamenco rock and progressive rock. The second part will be a session based on all the music I've developed from radishes, industrial music, and machine music."

The Consolació de Sant Joan mountain will be the stage from which the Murcian brothers who form the group Maestro Espada will showcase everything they've learned from Murcian folklore to make their eponymous album, released last September. After three years of working with Raül Refree and many vibrant reunions, they have worked with intuition and learning from experts in traditional music. The album is forged with the roots of the orchard where Àlex and Víctor Hernández grew up, and with the avant-garde that emerges from error and experimentation. On Friday, July 11, they arrive in Mallorca with Luna en Verso, the festival of the Mallorca Literary Foundation. We spoke with Àlex about the project and the new horizons that discovering his town's folklore has opened up for them.
