ARA Baleares opens a new era with the appointment of Jaume Perelló (Palma, 1970) as director, replacing Cristina Ros, who will remain at the helm of the weekly newspaper, the print edition. Both are part of the group of journalists who, with the daily ARA de Catalunya and a good number of members from the Islands, launched the newspaper in 2013, when it became the first digital newspaper in Catalan in the Balearic Islands with a clear commitment to quality and analysis. Ros has been director in two different stages (from 2014 to 2016, and from 2022 to the present), while Perelló was the first deputy director.

This is according to the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) of August 12, which states: detail the bases of the call for the selection of personnel for the creation of a pool of editors for the News Content Department at IB3, for temporary employment contracts in Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera.

This week, the Platform for Language sent a motion to all municipal political groups in the Balearic Islands, requesting that they present it in their town council plenary sessions demanding that RTVE's new Catalan-language channel also be broadcast in the islands. The organization denounces that limiting this new audiovisual offering exclusively to Catalonia "seriously violates the linguistic rights of the citizens of the Balearic Islands and constitutes, at the same time, a further example of institutional disregard for the unity of the Catalan language and its speakers."
