Given this situation, the union submitted a new risk assessment at the end of December, which led to a new health and safety report prepared at the beginning of January. This second document, according to the CCOO union, highlights the absence of a maintenance contract guaranteeing the periodic inspection of the facilities and the proper cleaning of the premises, which prevents the implementation of the urgent measures recommended in previous reports. The union presented the situation to the health and safety committee on January 30th and demanded a response from the municipal administration to guarantee the safety of the staff. Given the lack of response, CCOO has decided to take the case to the Labor Inspectorate.

The general secretary of the CCOO union, Unai Sordo, expressed his opposition to a "general" tax cut due to the war in Iran and the Middle East, but stated that he will demand limits on energy prices or measures to protect employment and economic activity, if necessary. The union leader indicated that this will be the position CCOO will defend at the meeting it will hold this Thursday with representatives of the Spanish government and other unions to assess possible actions regarding the effects of the conflict.

A Ryanair employee is on medical leave following a brutal attack that took place last Friday at Palma airport on a flight to Madrid. The assailant began punching the employee in the face after the employee reminded him of the airline's baggage policy, as the man and his partner had three suitcases and could either take only two or check the third. According to sources from the Workers' Commissions (CCOO) union, the passenger, without any prior argument, went directly to punch the employee in the face, leaving him no chance to defend himself or see the attack coming. Due to the severity of the attack, the victim suffered a dislocated jaw and lost five teeth. Medical services treated him at the scene. The National Police arrested the assailant. However, the union regrets that the professionals' response could have been faster if the airport had the necessary protocols and resources—demands that, according to CCOO, have been made for some time to guarantee "full" security. CCOO has condemned the attack, considering it "completely unacceptable" that passengers react violently against airport workers. Furthermore, they have reminded airlines that they must guarantee support, advice, and compensation for victims. The union indicated that it will contact Aena to review the current situation, as they believe it is necessary to review and improve security measures, "while also emphasizing the importance of airlines being aware of situations that can increase the risk of attacks and, therefore, taking measures to prevent them." "We stand in solidarity with the assaulted worker and demand a review of current security measures," they stated in a press release. The CCOO union will contact Aena to review the current situation and improve security measures at the airport.

The Balearic government is finalizing new exceptions to the Catalan language requirement for certain technical civil service positions considered hard to fill, a measure that has already sparked strong union opposition. The Workers' Commissions (CCOO) of the Balearic Islands has responded to the announcement, warning that the initiative represents "a frontal and unjustified attack" on the Balearic language and the right of citizens to be served in Catalan.

The Balearic Islands branch of the CCOO Habitat Federation has filed a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate regarding the alleged non-payment of wages and excessive working hours of its employees at a subcontracted company working on the renovation of both Palma Airport and Manacor Hospital. The union, in a statement outlining the events as reported by the workers themselves, also highlights alleged falsification of daily reports, cash payments without social security contributions, employees being denied vacation time, per diems "disguised and misappropriated" as advances, and transfers to the Spanish mainland without prior agreement. According to the union, as of Wednesday, the workers had still not received their wages and were working ten-hour shifts despite signing documents purporting to show they were only working eight.

The CCOO union in the Balearic Islands joined the criticism of the Balearic Government's Pact for Sustainability, lamenting the lack of "concrete objectives and pace," as highlighted by the union's general secretary in the Islands, José Luis García, and reported by Europa Press. In fact, the lack of objectives and plans for implementing measures have been two of the main reasons why civil society organizations no longer participate in the Pact. The Civil Society Forum, GOB, the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Palma, EAPN, and OCB have all withdrawn from this initiative, which they also accuse of lacking transparency in its operation. CCOO has demanded that the Government begin acting "right now" with transformative policies. "We need the Pact to be real. One of García's demands is that housing be placed at the heart of public policies and that efforts be made to address the gap between wages and purchasing power. After a 2025 without substantial answers to the problems faced by citizens, the general secretary predicts that precarious employment will persist in broad sectors of society in 2026. In addition to expanding the public housing stock, the union is calling for a crackdown on real estate speculation and a housing pact for the Canary Islands.

The CCOO Teaching Federation in the Balearic Islands has urged the Government to extend the school lunch service up to the 4th year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) to guarantee, at a minimum, one meal a day for all students. The union also demands that, in the 0-2 age group, the ratios be one educator for every four or five children. These demands come after the Ministry of Education and Universities presented the draft of the new decree that will regulate school cafeterias, a document that will be taken to the Participation Committee next week. In a statement, CCOO expressed its "outright rejection" of the Government's proposal, which it considers "unfeasible, disconnected from the educational reality, and failing to incorporate the demands of the sector, unions, social organizations, and families." The union also regrets that the Regional Ministry did not consult "the sector's largest union" and that the text was drafted "without regard for the needs" of the workers.

The Valldemossa daycare center will close in two weeks, on November 19, after five years of operating under an expired public contract. The company currently managing the center, according to a statement from the Balearic Islands branch of the CCOO union, has already officially announced its intention to withdraw from the service.

The CCOO union presented this Thursday a package of 52 measures that it will present in the second phase of the Pact for Sustainability, among which stands out the proposal to raise the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) to 15 euros per person per day in the months of July and August with the aim of making it a "disincentive".

On October 15, the UGT and CCOO organized two-hour work stoppages in all workplaces with the aim of "demonstrating that the world of work does not look the other way and also singles out Israel as a genocidal state," explained José Luis García, Secretary General of the Workers' Commissions of the Balearic Islands. Both unions formally registered the call for action in the Islands (which will also be carried out in the rest of Spain) this Tuesday with the Ministry of the Presidency. All employees—both in public and private companies—will be able to show their support for Palestine from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (morning shifts), from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. if they work in the afternoon, and from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. if they work at night.

The CCOO (City of Workers' Party) called this Friday for intervention in the housing market, especially in the regulation of purchases by foreigners, since, in their view, "it makes no sense" that there are more vacant properties in the Balearic Islands than rentals. The CCOO union estimated the reference salary required in the Balearic Islands to cover essential daily living expenses at €2,260.47 gross per month (in 14 payments), according to a study commissioned by the Intercoopera Foundation. The report reflects significant imbalances between the islands—with Ibiza leading the way, where the reference salary soars to €2,996.06—and a need for a 14% salary increase compared to the previous year, well above the actual growth recorded. Specifically, on the other islands, the reference salary is €2,166.16 in Mallorca, €1,947.03 in Menorca, €2,996.06 in Ibiza, and €2,976.64 in Formentera.
