Calvià Local Police presented this Friday the new Drone Unit, a service that will come into operation coinciding with the start of high season and which has involved an investment of 82,000 euros in technological equipment and training. The device was unveiled at the Son Bugadelles barracks and, according to the City Council, will allow for increased surveillance, citizen security, and emergency response in the municipality.

The partial collapse of a hotel in Calvià on Thursday night led to the partial evacuation of the establishment and the sealing off of the affected area, as reported by the Mallorca Fire Department. The Calvià Town Council has approved the necessary permits and budget allocation to organize a San Fermín festival in July 2026 featuring a bull run with cows from the Galatzó public estate, located in the Capdellà district. The project will be officially presented next January at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid. According to a statement released by the Town Council, which was ironically sent on April Fool's Day (a Spanish holiday), the initiative aims to revive a tradition that, according to municipal records, dates back to 1866 and is linked to the town's bullfighting past and the figure of the bullfighter known as Capellanet. The animals that would participate in the bull run are one bull and seven Mallorcan cows, which were released onto the Galatzó estate in early December to contribute to natural vegetation clearing and the prevention of forest fires. According to the City Council, the cattle have adapted quickly to the environment and possess a "suitable" temperament to play a leading role in the festival. The mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, expressed his satisfaction with the project, which he described as an initiative that combines "festival, tradition, and memory" and allows, he said, the municipality to showcase a little-known past. The Calvià Town Council, governed by the People's Party and Vox, has finalized its agreement for the 2026 municipal budget, which totals €121.57 million – €152 million if the consolidated budget including public companies and organizations is included – figures similar to the previous year. The Council maintains that the budget consolidates financial stability and allows for planning for the next fiscal year. The municipal government states that the budget continues the improvement of public services, with a particular focus on citizen security, and strengthens social, cultural, and educational policies. One of the key points is investment in infrastructure: €43 million is earmarked over the course of this term, the highest figure ever recorded in the municipality. Among the highlighted projects are the second phase of the Gabriel Escarrer seafront promenade renovation (Magaluf), the refurbishment of Jaime I Avenue in Santa Ponça and the Peguera Boulevard, as well as the modernization of the houses on the Galatzó public estate and the Torrenova development. In the education sector, investments stemming from the agreement between IMEB and the Ministry of Education will continue, with €5.94 million allocated to improvements in 11 public preschool and primary schools. Free tuition for children aged 0-3 in municipal nurseries will also continue, along with year-round operation. The budget also includes the agreement with IB-Salut to build two new primary healthcare units in Son Ferrer and Peguera, and to relocate the existing one in Capdellà, with a planned investment of approximately €6 million. The City Council attributes the budget's approval to the support of the Balearic Government and the Council of Mallorca. The document is expected to be approved at an extraordinary plenary session, where the specific budget items and implementation schedule for 2026 will be detailed.

This Friday is a historic day for the Balearic Islands: the regional government has begun the demolition of the old Teix Hotel in Magaluf and the Colón Hostel in Peguera, the first such demolition in the 21st century in the Balearic Islands to free up space. The streets where the former establishments are located were closed off by the local police, and only the cars of the attending politicians, of which there were many, were allowed access. In front of the Teix Hotel, the president of the regional government, Marga Prohens, announced plans to replicate this initiative in other municipalities across the islands, specifically in Cales de Mallorca and Sant Antoni de Portmany. "With these demolitions, we are fully entering the renewal of established areas of the municipality; these are the first demolitions carried out in Calvià in the 21st century," said Amengual, who explained that the objective is to recover land for public use. The purchase of the Hotel Teix in Magaluf was formalized by the Calvià Town Council on March 20th, following a private purchase agreement reached with its former owners at the beginning of February. The acquisition of the property, which had been closed for years, was financed with funds provided by the European Union's Next Generation Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, managed through the Government. This demolition follows that of the former Hostal Colón in Peguera, also acquired by the Town Council under the same conditions. Thus, the total investment allocated to the purchase and demolition of both establishments amounts to approximately 6 million euros. For the Town Council, the demolition is not only an urban planning operation, but also a "declaration of principles" regarding "commitment to a more people-friendly, livable, and sustainable city model, where the land serves the people, and not the other way around."

The Balearic Islands Transport (TIB) buses connecting the Calvià, Inca, Manacor, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Llucmajor, and Campos area with Son Sant Joan Airport will offer a regular service year-round, even during the off-season, as announced this Thursday by the Minister of Housing, Mobility, and Territory, José Luis Mat. This service will begin this Saturday on lines A11 (Camp de Mar-Airport), A33 (from the Port of Alcúdia), A43 (Manacor), and A51 (Campos). Buses will run every hour to every hour and 1 hour and 15 minutes, depending on the line. The first buses will depart between 4:15 and 4:40 a.m. for the airport, and the last buses will leave Son Sant Joan between 10:30 and 11:40 p.m. The four lines will have an average of between 26 and 38 daily trips. Mateo emphasized that this is the first time a regular service has been offered on the four Aerotib bus lines during the off-season and from Monday to Sunday. A 66-year-old man died this Sunday while scuba diving in the waters of the Toro area (Calvià).
