After a few days with almost summer-like temperatures, the weather took a radical turn this Sunday in Mallorca. The arrival of an Atlantic front has caused a notable drop in thermometers, strong winds, and precipitation, leaving behind the spring-like atmosphere of recent days.

The Emergency Services continue to urge the public to exercise "maximum caution" due to the showers expected this Saturday. In a press release, the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Coordination of Government Action, and Local Cooperation reported that the Directorate General of Emergencies and the Interior convened the Technical Advisory Committee of the Special Plan against Adverse Weather Phenomena (Meteobal) this morning to monitor the development of the showers that have been occurring since the morning.

Storm Alice severely affected Ibiza and Formentera, as well as parts of Mallorca, this Saturday. This led the Government's General Directorate of Emergencies to send out mass ES-Alert messages. Furthermore, the Meteobal Plan has also been activated on all the islands, but in different operational situations: Operational Situation 2 (SO-2) in Ibiza and Formentera, SO-1 in Mallorca, and SO-0 in Menorca. Likewise, the Meteobal Plan remains on orange alert (IG-1) for all the Balearic Islands.

Some 160 people have required assistance from the emergency social assistance program launched by Ibiza City Council following the heavy rains on Tuesday, which ended Thursday morning.

The mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, announced this Wednesday that he will ask the Spanish government to declare the area a disaster due to the material damage caused by torrential rains in the island's capital.

The Military Emergency Unit (UME) intervened overnight Tuesday, carrying out cleanup work near the airport and removing water from roads and homes in Ibiza. The UME reported this in a message on the social network X, in which they detailed that they carried out missions such as cleaning a highway near Ibiza airport and removing water accumulated due to heavy rain from homes, garages, and streets.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts that autumn in the Balearic Islands will be warmer than expected and with average rainfall. This was explained by the Aemet representative for the islands, María José Guerrero, at a press conference on Thursday, where she reviewed a warmer-than-usual summer and gave an overview of the forecast for the coming months.

Far from having faded, the storm that has affected Mallorca these past few days continues to have a significant impact in certain parts of the island. Early this afternoon, heavy rain fell in Alcudia and Artà, flooding streets.

Delays of several hours and flight cancellations due to rain continued Tuesday afternoon at the airports of Mallorca and Ibiza and extended to Menorca, which had been nearly affected this morning.

Mallorca will be under an orange warning for rain and thunderstorms this Wednesday, with the possibility of some locally heavy or very heavy showers with thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon.

This Thursday morning's storm has once again put Palma Airport to the test. Between 7 and 8 a.m., heavy rain fell heavily on Mallorca and caused several incidents at Son Sant Joan. According to Aemet data, 11 l/m² fell, but it was enough to cause leaks and seepage, which once again generated images reminiscent—albeit on a smaller scale—of those in June 2024, when the airport even flooded. Leaks, in fact, have been a constant on rainy days since the project's inauguration in 1997.
