The second demonstration this Sunday in Palma for International Women's Day brought together 2,200 people, according to the National Police, and championed the feminist struggle against "setbacks in social rights and the rise of reactionary rhetoric" and against "a world being reshaped by war."

This is the testimony of Esperança Nicolau, principal of CEIP Sa Torre in Manacor. Her school was on the brink of collapse during the 2015-2016 school year, the first in which the Balanced Schooling Agreement was in effect, aiming to redistribute vulnerable students between public and private schools. At that time, 21 families had lost their place in their first choice and were assigned to Sa Torre, a school widely stigmatized for having had nearly 90% of students of North African origin for years. None of these families wanted to attend.

June is graduation season for schools. I attend two each year, as I teach Geography and History to 4th year ESO students and History of Spain to 2nd year Baccalaureate students at IES Alcúdia. In Alcúdia, we're fortunate to have access to the municipal auditorium, which the City Council lends us for the graduation party. The space is very attractive, and when you give the students the choice of whether they'd rather have the party at the school or the auditorium, they always choose the auditorium.
