The High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) has dismissed the appeal filed by the Santanyí City Council against various resolutions of the Coastal Demarcation related to the parking lot located in Cala Llombards and has upheld the action of the State administration to order the removal of signage and the closure.

The environmental organization Amics de la Terra Eivissa has expressed this Monday its “firm rejection” of the project to build a large car park on Abel Matutes boulevard, in the city of Ibiza, because it considers that it would mean the destruction of one of the main urban green spaces in the area.

An unfavorable report from the Historical Heritage Service of the Consell de Mallorca, issued on October 2nd, halted the construction of the parking facilities that the Petra Town Council awarded in early July. The construction contract, worth €527,308, was awarded to the company Melchor Mascaró, and in fact, work has not yet begun. This mandatory report from the Heritage Service, issued in early October, which ultimately rejected the project, had not yet been issued when the project was put out to tender. The parking facility is planned for a municipal plot of land located behind the Petra parish church. It includes a total of 60 spaces, 44 of which will be underground. The concession for these spaces will be public property, and in fact, they have already been acquired with an initial payment of €10,000 each. The other 16 parking spaces will be above ground and open to the public. There will be three accessible parking spaces and two for electric vehicles. The construction of the parking spaces is the first phase, as the plan for the future included a one-story municipal building, "yet to be determined," according to the Petra Town Council, to be built in a large available space above the underground parking garage. However, the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) has now halted everything because the municipal subsidiary regulations do not permit a building used solely as a parking garage in this area, which is classified as low-density residential. In other words, a parking garage can only be built if it is complementary to a primary use. In this regard, the report mentions that the Town Council's submitted documentation states that another building of unknown use, not included in the project, will be constructed above the existing structure in the future. The document is clear: "The reality is that the project now being presented is for an underground building for the exclusive use of parking. From an urban planning perspective, it's backwards: a subsidiary use cannot be implemented exclusively without the implementation of one of the permitted uses."

Residents of Sóller have launched the 'Salvem Sóller' initiative through Change.org to denounce the proliferation of new parking lots in the municipality. In the campaign, they warn that five parking lots have already been built—with another three in the pipeline—without a clear mobility strategy and with a strong environmental and landscape impact.

Maria (the fictitious name of a resident of Manacor Street in Palma who requests anonymity) says that every time she has to leave her car in the public parking lot below the Wifi park, her heart races because she often finds "people shooting up, blood on the walls, puncture wounds, and feces." She adds that this makes her feel "unsafe" in a place where she believes she shouldn't be. "It's not fair that I have to fear leaving my car in my parking lot," she emphasizes.

A total of nine vehicles were affected this Sunday by a fire that broke out in the parking lot of a supermarket in Cala Millor.

Palma's Puig de San Pedro was also the scene of a civic battle between January and September 2002: that of local residents, along with other associations, to save the pine trees in the Plaza de la Puerta de Santa Catalina. This battle was resolved in victory, as this small urban forest has essentially survived to this day.

This Friday, MÁS por Sóller denounced the destruction of an orange grove in Biniaraix to build a car park. The group lamented that the City Council, with the approval of the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Council), destroyed a fruit tree orchard and placed concrete blocks on the dry stone margins in an area declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC).
