The resolution, signed by the Director General of Urban Harmonization and Environmental Assessment, definitively halts the installation of a large solar complex that intended to occupy, next to the Palma-Sineu road, twenty-one hectares of general rustic forest land in the municipality of Sencelles.

Three weeks, this is the time that has passed since GOB requested a meeting with the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the President of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, to know if they are willing to listen to the outcry of the 70,000 people who, according to the organizers' figures, demonstrated in Palma on July 26th against the perverse effects of saturation and touristification on the lives of residents. The meeting was requested just one day later, on July 27th, but the Executive has ignored the environmental organization's request. "We have not received a single response," assure GOB sources.

At the beginning of the legislature, Marga Prohens's incoming Government boasted about having reduced expenditure on senior officials by one million euros. As the organizational chart had one less ministry than the previous Executive, spending fell from 8.42 million euros annually in Francina Armengol's term to 7.1 million euros annually with the PP. However, this situation has reversed, and in 2025 the Popular Party already exceeded the spending of the Pact Government: they spent 8,970,175.74 euros annually on senior officials and temporary staff (advisors and trusted personnel).

Maria Joaquina Ferrer is no longer the Director General of Costs and Littoral, but a good part of the team that worked with her does not seem willing to let her dismissal be read only in terms of a management crisis. Twenty-one officials from the agency have signed a letter addressed to the Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, in which they express disagreement with the Government's decision and claim the way Ferrer has led the agency in recent months.

The educators of the nursery schools of the Balearic Islands grouped under the Xarxa 0-3, of which UGT, CCOO and STEI are part, are preparing the start of the school year with mobilizations with which they intend to continue advancing towards the salary equalization of all workers in the sector. This Monday they met in an assembly in which the union representatives conveyed the content of the meeting they held last week with the Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera.

The origin of this conflict dates back to May, when a resolution from the Directorate General of Coasts for temporary facilities for 2026-2029 denied authorization for 681 sun loungers and 339 umbrellas, provoking criticism from the Formentera Council towards the Government (Coasts did authorize 1,169 sun loungers and 589 umbrellas). The Vice President commented that this situation "had not occurred in Formentera in previous years" and stressed that "it has a very significant impact on public interest." The Ministry of Defence has confirmed to the Government that the Spanish army will be deployed in the Balearic Islands on the day of the eclipse and will form part of the security device that has been planned to control the influx of people. The Vice-President and spokesperson for the Executive, Antoni Costa, announced this Friday after the meeting of the Governing Council. However, he also acknowledged that the Executive has no estimate of the influx of people. "It is evident that it would be very considerable if there were no kind of restriction," he said without providing any approximate figure.

It has not been four months since the Government expressed its "pride and satisfaction" for the conduct of the Director General of Coasts, Maria Joaquina Ferrer, who reported an attempted bribery by a businessman from Mallorca. But the Executive has shifted from public recognition to the dismissal of Ferrer, who has not yet completed a year in office and who will now return to her position as a civil servant of the CAIB. The dismissal will be effective this Friday in the Governing Council.

Just one day after the demonstration on July 26, GOB and Terraferida requested a meeting with the President of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés. Neither of the two leaders has shown any sign of life so far, nor have they expressed any intention to meet with the activists, who are demanding that the outcry against the saturation of more than 70,000 people who took to the streets on 26-J be heard. "We have not received any response and it concerns us," pointed out GOB representative Tonina Siquier, adding a warning: "We will not stop. We have just begun." Siquier emphasized that Prohens and Galmés are "the only two people who can take measures against overpopulation." "Prohens says she agrees with the demands and that the Pact did it badly, as if the current responsibilities did not concern her," she added.

The Civil Society Forum has attacked this Thursday the Government's decision not to extend the collaboration agreement it had with the entity, in force until July 31. The organization considers the decision to be "difficult to understand", states that it had not received any prior warning about the functioning of the agreement and calls on the Executive to publicly explain the reasons why it has decided not to renew it.

The Balearic left must be a prodigious political force. It has been in opposition for more than three years and still manages to collapse roads, increase housing costs, saturate beaches, and fill the airport. There are governments that barely leave a legacy. The Pact, on the other hand, seems to have discovered the secret of political immortality.

It can be listed in any order, but the fact is that housing, saturation, and mobility are the major structural problems that the citizens of the Balearic Islands have been dragging since the beginning of the last legislature, that of the Pact. Governments, headlines, announcements, and press conferences have passed, but the difficulties have shown their resilience and public policies have not even been able to diminish them.

The PP's decision to allow companies and investment funds to buy housing at a regulated price is the latest example of the change in housing policy model in the Balearic Islands, driven by Marga Prohens's government, with political role models like Isabel Díaz Ayuso's Community of Madrid. The Popular Party has opted to increase supply and private initiative over protected housing, a strategy that the left and experts consulted by ARA Balears have criticized.

The Vice President of the Government, Antònia Maria Estarellas, referred this Monday to the 0.9% increase in tourist arrivals in the Balearic Islands until April and recalled that the Executive "does not speak of a decrease, but of containment" and that its model "is not in the figures", but in how they want there to be an increase in tourism. "The Government's model is not in the figures, it is in how we want this increase in tourism to come, in extending the months and in deconcentrating the massive influx in very specific months," she commented.

The Governing Council authorized the Community's Advocacy to initiate judicial proceedings this Friday.
