In early 2020, at least four officers of the National Police Corps infiltrated several social movements linked to Catalan independence. Using false identities, Maria Perelló infiltrated in Girona; Ramon Martínez, in Valencia; and Daniel Hernández and Marc Hernández, in Barcelona. All were part of the 33rd graduating class of the Ávila Police Academy and operated under the orders of the General Information Commissariat (CGI). For more than two years, the four officers shared assemblies, debates, demonstrations, friendships, and also sexual and romantic relationships with people committed to Catalan independence, the right to housing, or environmentalism.

The self-proclaimed pro-independence organization Arran posted a video on social media that has sparked controversy and mixed reactions. The video includes images of graffiti on the facade of the Ministry of Tourism, with the slogan "guilty of our misery," and the burning of photographs of the regional president and several business leaders.

The youth organization Arran has accused the government of criminalizing the grassroots movement, especially in cases where protests go "against its ideals." "Both the current government of Marga Prohens and previous ones, especially those of Pacte, have led us to the current situation, in which we have lost in all areas of our lives to the profits of the tourism sector," Arran said in a statement on Tuesday. The organization ironically emphasized that "on an island full of graffiti of all kinds, the government has strongly condemned the only ones that have directly pointed it out." According to Arran, the government has taken "one more step in its attempt to criminalize the grassroots movement." The organization forcefully stated that the government "persecutes" certain displays of discontent from civil society.

Arran shared a video on social media of the graffiti they made this Friday on the facade of the Ministry of Tourism, in which they burned photos of politicians and hoteliers.
