In a statement published this Thursday, GOB reports that Moranta is provisionally assuming the presidency "with the will to guarantee the continuity of the organization and ongoing projects" while the new internal phase of the collective is redefined.

The extraordinary assembly of GOB this Friday ended with the resignation of ten members of the board of directors, including the president, Teresa Cuennet. The reason, as explained by the resigned members: the impossibility of reaching an understanding with the other part of the same board of directors regarding the entity's model and work system.

The Government defends the project for the second electrical link between the Islands and the Peninsula as an "essential" infrastructure to guarantee supply and advance the energy transition. The Executive especially endorses the route planned through La Herradura, in Alcudia, which it considers the most viable option from both a technical and environmental point of view.

The GOB has warned that the recent closure of the coastline of the l’Estalella estate may cause "irreversible impacts on habitats and species of high ecological value" included within protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network. The closure, carried out with wooden posts and game netting along the entire coastline bordering the estate, prevents passage along traditional paths previously used by hikers and cyclists between Racó de s’Arena (l’Estanyol) and Pas de Vallgornera. It should be remembered that this route had been authorized by the Llucmajor City Council as a hiking trail.

The Balearic Ornithology and Nature Defense Group has reported an increase in the dissemination on social networks of unauthorized activities in protected natural areas of Mallorca, a practice it considers growing and which, it warns, puts conservation of the environment at risk and fosters a sense of impunity.

The GOB Mallorca, Arrels Marines, and the affected property owners' association ANACA warned this Wednesday that the project for a second electricity cable between Mallorca and Menorca is not a viable solution in its current terms and have called for a thorough review of the environmental impact study. The environmental group GOB in Mallorca has warned that the Government intends to allow the modification of the protection regime of the Trenc-Salobrar de Campos natural park by decree, through an amendment included in the processing of the strategic projects law. As the organization has denounced, this modification would mean a "radical change" in the legal framework of the protected area, since until now any alteration of its regime required the approval of a law in Parliament.

A BASE jump from a prohibited area in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range has raised concerns among environmentalists in Mallorca. The video of the jump, circulated on social media, shows the activity taking place just meters from one of the few remaining active osprey nests, a species listed as vulnerable and currently beginning its breeding season. The Balearic Ornithological and Nature Defense Group (GOB) has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment, requesting increased monitoring of sports and adventure activities in the Serra de Tramuntana to protect endangered wildlife. According to the statement, the jump was made from an exclusion zone designated by the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN), which prohibits all recreational and sporting activities. The video, clearly identifiable, shows both the jumper and the person who retrieved them with a boat, as well as the name of the company that organized the activity. Environmentalists point out that the exclusion zone is precisely the area with the highest biological value or fragile natural elements, as established by the Law for the Conservation of Areas of Environmental Interest. The osprey has only 11 breeding pairs located in Mallorca last year, and any disturbance could seriously affect its reproductive success. The GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group) warns that the growth of adventure tourism and mountain sports can have negative impacts on species conservation and calls for responsibility from citizens and businesses. "Access restrictions to the most environmentally sensitive areas must be respected," insist the environmentalists, who demand immediate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The GOB, in line with the Anaca platform, questioned the need for the second electricity cable between the Iberian Peninsula and Mallorca and demanded a less impactful alternative. This project, the environmentalists stated in a press release, not only has "potentially serious" environmental and climate impacts, but its technical and energy necessity has not been properly justified. Furthermore, less impactful alternatives, including prioritizing energy consumption reduction or other efficiency measures, have not been evaluated. Therefore, the GOB filed an appeal with the Ministry for Ecological Transition against the Council of Ministers' agreement approving the grid plan for 2026, which includes this second cable. "This criticism does not dismiss the importance of guaranteeing a secure supply, but rather asserts that energy planning cannot circumvent key issues such as reducing consumption, energy sovereignty, or the social and environmental cost of dependence on large infrastructures," the organization concluded.

The public estate of La Trapa was the setting today for a tribute to Francesc Moll i Marquès, known as Xesc Moll, one of the most important figures in Mallorcan culture and environmentalism. The event, organized by GOB Mallorca, the Obra Cultural Balear (OCB), and Nova Editorial Moll, aimed to recognize the crucial role Moll played in the consolidation and direction of both organizations. Far from a mere formality, the tribute had a strong symbolic and activist component. The choice of La Trapa was not accidental: Moll was one of the key figures in the public reclamation of the estate when he presided over GOB between 1978 and 1981, a pivotal moment for Mallorcan environmentalism. The event included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, speeches by representatives from the cultural and environmental sectors, as well as from the honoree's personal circle. A musical performance by the duo Atrapados, formed by members of the estate's volunteer group, further emphasized the event's commitment. During the speeches, emphasis was placed on the contrasting models that Moll successfully navigated throughout his career: unfettered development versus the defense of the land and culture as a tool for social transformation. Both the GOB and the OCB agreed in describing him as a figure of consensus, capable of combining technical rigor with a long-term strategic vision. The son of philologist Francesc de Borja Moll, Xesc Moll directed Editorial Moll for decades and was a founding member of the GOB. He actively participated in some of the island's main environmental battles, such as the defense of the Albufera and Dragonera lagoons, and briefly held institutional positions, always with a critical and independent perspective. The organizing entities also wanted to highlight the figure of Matilde Echeto, his wife, whom the GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group) considers essential to understanding Moll's civic and personal commitment. Today's tribute served to solidify Xesc Moll's legacy in the very landscape he helped to preserve and to demonstrate the widespread recognition of a figure who marked an era in the struggle for language, culture, and territory in Mallorca.

The GOB Mallorca environmental group has warned of discrepancies between the seasonal facilities project submitted for public comment by the Palma City Council and the tender published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, which includes rates "significantly" higher than those initially planned. The environmental organization stated in a press release that the initial project included an economic and financial study with maximum unit rates for services such as sunbeds, parasols, and pedal boats throughout the municipality. However, as they have denounced, the tender includes a new study with higher prices and even services not previously included, such as premium sunbeds and canvas parasols, which could lead to charges exceeding authorized levels.

The GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group) has filed a complaint against a restaurant with the Coastal Authority and the Felanitx Town Council for illegally occupying part of the Arenal Petit beach in Portocolom.
