More than a hundred residents of Palma have joined this Saturday in a human chain to show their rejection of the construction of a car park and other municipal facilities on the plots adjacent to the old Gesa building. The protest, called by the association Parc Sí, took place in the same place where, according to residents' complaints, the City Council intends to build a "macrocar park" and new infrastructure.

Around 150 people gathered this Saturday afternoon in Palma's Plaza de España to protest against the actions of US President Donald Trump and to reject US intervention in Venezuela. The attendees made it clear that the demonstration did not represent support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, but rather a defense of peace and international dialogue. The gathering, which began at 6:00 PM, was organized by Sumud Flotilla, the Mallorca Anti-Racist Platform, and the Mallorca for Peace Platform, which brings together several social organizations, political parties, and NGOs. In statements to the media, Salvador Martínez, coordinator of Mallorca for Peace, explained that the protest was called in response to the US attack on Venezuela in the early hours of the same day, which he described as "terrifying and absolutely unacceptable." According to Martínez, the US action demonstrates "total impunity" and constitutes a violation of international law and human rights.

The Plaça de Cort in Palma will host this afternoon's annual rally in support of the Sahrawi people, organized by the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People of the Balearic Islands. The event will include the lighting of candles in remembrance of political prisoners and the disappeared. As the organization noted in a statement, December 25th marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the occupation of Western Sahara. Musicantes, Cor de Cambra, the Orfeó Ramon Llull, and CAUOM will participate in the rally. The event will serve to denounce the forced disappearances, repression, human rights violations in the territory, and the imprisonment of Sahrawis fighting for their freedom. The association points out that there are currently 39 Sahrawi political prisoners serving life sentences or 30- and 25-year terms in Moroccan prisons, under conditions they describe as inhumane. "Each candle we light will be a light against the silence, a cry against impunity, and a tribute to all the victims," the statement affirms. The Association of Friends of the Sahrawi People of the Balearic Islands reiterates its demand for the holding of the self-determination referendum promised to the Sahrawi people and recalls "the political, legal, and moral obligation" of Spain as the administering power of the territory. "This Christmas, we join in their pain, their hope, and their struggle," the organization concludes.

Palma City Council has denied permission to hold an event in solidarity with Palestine as part of the Night of Art event taking place this Saturday in Palma. The permit had been formally submitted by the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Palma.

Mallorca for Palestine has organized rallies in four ports in Mallorca to support the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international civil society initiative that will include more than 50 vessels and representatives from over 44 countries. The fleet, which will depart from Barcelona for Gaza on August 31, will be the largest collective effort by the international solidarity movement with Palestine to break the blockade on Gaza and will include sailors, health workers, lawyers, and activists from around the world.

Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía participated this Monday for the first time in the reception traditionally held by the King and Queen at the Marivent Palace in Palma. Queen Sofía also attended the reception, having traveled to Palma specifically to attend the event. However, a group of protesters also attended the event, gathering at the palace gates demanding its return to the town. The protesters displayed signs reading "Recuperem Marivent" and banners defending Catalan.

Around thirty people attended the rally, which was called by Stop Desahucios Mallorca this Saturday in Palma's Plaza de España, to support the people living in the storage rooms on Joan Miró Street and who are facing power cuts and evictions.
