It's her way of evoking a world of connection to the land and precise words that vanished with the boom A tourist attraction in the 1960s. The first person to hear that same tune live 74 years ago was the American ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax. "In 1952," he says, "he saw me perform at an international folklore competition held in the Palma bullring. I sang with my village group, Los Danzadores del Baile de Oro (The Dancers of the Golden Dance). We were one of the prize winners. Apparently, my family liked it a lot and asked to come. I was the only doll." Capó remembers that visit perfectly. "The sun was blazing, and Lomax arrived hunched over and sweltering. He took out his tape recorder and recorded the moment when my father, my grandfather, and I were singing while we threshed grain on the threshing floor with a sledgehammer. He must not have understood a thing. He only knew a little Spanish."

It was the early 2000s. They had seen each other because Pedro used to play basketball with Francisco, a mutual friend who was from Selva, like Joana. While reminiscing about the years isn't exactly a factor for him, he does remember the impact that being at Joana's house had on him: "I remember being struck by the fact that she had a good CD collection. And I also remember the genuine, adolescent impact of seeing her dance a Kylie Minogue choreography with her friends." Years after this anniversary, Pere Bestard and Joana Pol met in the cloister of the Ramon Llull building at the UIB and formed the musical duo Donallop; and a few years later, they got married. But let's take it step by step.

Son of Toni Nicolau and Maria Morlà, "day laborers who survived on little money and bartered with neighbors," who had no connection to music beyond knowing how to dance the canoe. And yet, when the boy said he wanted to be a singer, Toni Nicolau went to Manacor to buy him a guitar. A gesture that changed the life of little Tomeu Nicolau Morlà from Vilafranca de Bonany, born in 1949, whom everyone now knows by the stage name Tomeu Penya.

It is where the composer and pianist Frédéric Chopin and the writer George Sand stayed during the winter of 1838-1839 (a not entirely favorable experience that was recorded in the book A winter in Mallorca (of Sand). And through these same streets and gardens, since 1996, a doll that loved to play with insects and hunt crabs and lobsters runs and plays. It is a celebrity Nostrada: She's been wandering around different stages for years, singing from the heart. She's one of the island's best-known sibyls and has always shown an interest in glossa. She's cheerful, friendly, and very easy-going. She also says the singer was never a "normal doll": "Nothing burned her, and she often carried insects, crabs, or lobsters in her hands, although over time that obsession ended. moms and dadsShe didn't dress up or wear much makeup. Instead, she loved making crafts, necklaces, and bracelets. She was a sociable doll and has been very independent ever since she was little." Creativity has always been a part of her: "She would make up words and make us laugh a lot. One time we went to the Basque Country, and she would start speaking in Basque. She made everything up, of course, but she was very funny."

It's not that she was born and skipped the entire childhood stage; it's that the person speaking to us is the younger brother of the singer and poet Clara Fiol (Palma, 1995), Joan Fiol. With almost eight years between them, it's normal that the child, upon becoming conscious, already saw her as an adult. "Actually, she wasn't that much of an adult; it was just the effect she had on me because I was very young. For that very reason, I suppose, she has been a great role model for me."
