We're talking about Oriente, this hamlet in the municipality of Bunyola, declared a joint historical site (BIC), which stretches across a hill strategically located in the middle of an elongated valley, between the Honor and Bosque passes, with two exits towards the Raiguer region, via Solleric and Freu. It's dominated by some of the great mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, a World Heritage Site. We set off on foot from the TIB bus stop (L-331 Alaró-Orient/check schedules and availability on the website). tib.org), opposite the houses of Cals Reis, heading towards Bunyola on the Ma-2100 road. Pay attention, because the first part of this route is on asphalt; whether there are few or many people, always try to walk single file and on the left side of the road.

But the same old thing is never the same... why does one have six letters and the other only five? No, because many factors come together in an experience and determine it: people, light, atmosphere, weather, color, etc. Many hikers (myself included) often find that no matter how many times they do the same route, it's not always the same, it's not always the same; the difference? Nuances; because they will never hear it (we will never hear it) the same way they always do it. We will do the same thing, but it will never be the same.

A powerful cultural landscape and a natural heritage of incalculable value. We propose to explore a small part of the Salinas de Ibiza, visit the Salt Charger (La Xanga), the 16th-century defense tower, and climb Mount Corb, where we find the facilities of a former military observatory from the Civil War and World War II. Our starting point is the 18th-century church of San Francisco del Estany, one of the many that were built throughout the island following the constitution of the Diocese of Ibiza in 1782. This one, in particular, was built by the will of King Charles III to meet the religious needs of the workers of the sane. For regular public transport users, line 11 (Ibiza-Sant Jordi-les Salines) stops in front of the church.

These walls are a splendid example of Renaissance fortifications with bastions, seven in total (San Pedro, Santiago, San Jorge, San Bernardo, Santa Tecla, Santa Lucía, and San Juan). Declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument in 1942, along with the cathedral tower and apse, the walls and Dalt Vila have also been a World Heritage Site since 1999. This walled urban area covers approximately 70,000 square meters. The renovation and fortification of the city of Ibiza in the 16th century was part of the plan to modernize the Mediterranean coastal defenses, promoted by Charles I and Philip II, to maintain and defend the Crown's territories during a time of continuous armed conflicts with France and the Ottoman Empire. The project was designed by the engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi (Milan, 1525-Perpignan, 1564), who initiator in 1555 of the works that would be continued twenty years later by Giovan Giacomo Palearo, called Fratin and, later, Antonio Saura, in the last decade of the 16th century.

Since the establishment of ancient Iboshim by the Phoenicians in the 6th century BC, the population was distributed as far away from the sea as possible. However, the first Phoenician port in Ibiza was in La Caleta, by the sea, between Codolar beach and Jondal point, founded in the 8th century BC. The Mediterranean was a bustling and growing world, and the sea was an immense platform across which trade missions moved from one end to the other.

This was due to the flood of October 1403, in which some 5,000 people died. La Rambla, Riera Street, Unió, and the Born form the fossilized imprint of this event. Back then, in the 15th century, the sea entered well inland, and up to the Plaza de la Reina, this urban promenade was a small bay, accessible by boat. The drying up of the Riera marked the birth of a new path, a public thoroughfare that constantly speaks to us, with its heart in its hand, of history and heritage, of natural disasters and festive celebrations, of life and death. The Born and the Muelle de la Riba dock are our urban walk to understand the city's relationship with the sea, of the memory of paths.
