The PP presented the initiative, which received 18 votes in favor from the councilors of the three parties, compared to 13 votes against from the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB) and Més for Mallorca. PP member Maria Garrido defended the proposal, emphasizing that in Spain, equality and human dignity "are not slogans," but rather "constitutional mandates." She indicated that this debate "went beyond a garment," arguing that it raised the question of whether, "in a democratic society, it is acceptable for a woman to walk down the street without a face covering."

Customers take them while he returns to the kitchen to finish a late afternoon snack. Along Manacor's train avenue, there are many other businesses like his, coexisting with local shops. A few days ago, the president of the Balearic Parliament and leader of Vox in the Balearic Islands, Gabriel Le Senne, filmed videos nearby chatting with local residents to denounce the "Islamization," the presence of "Moorish barbershops and businesses," and streets that "look like Morocco." The discourse wasn't new, but it was more precise: the attack on the immigration It's not abstract but directed at Islam and, by extension, at Moroccans.

The far right is playing with fire. It does so deliberately when it singles out a segment of the population—in this case, the Muslim population—as a source of conflict, a cultural threat, and supposed social degradation. Fueling Islamophobia is an exercise in colossal political irresponsibility, because the consequences of this discourse are not merely rhetorical: they directly impact coexistence, cohesion, and social peace in the Balearic Islands.

The Sa Pobla Town Council has approved a Vox initiative (with the support of the PP and the Independents mayor, but with three councilors from their own group abstaining) to prohibit the wearing of a burka in municipal buildings. The proposal was opposed by the PSOE, MÁS, and El Pi parties and reinforces a regulation that has been in place since 2011, which Vox considers ambiguous, unclear, and ineffective. Vox councilor Roberto Vicente stated that it is shameful that councilors from the same party as the mayor "hide behind abstention," while their own mayor votes in favor of "a basic security measure." "The PSOE, MÁS, and El Pi have once again positioned themselves on the side of political correctness and cultural compromise, demonstrating that they prioritize their ideology over the safety and general interest of the residents of Sa Pobla," the councilor added. Vox reiterated its claim to authorship of the proposal, "even though the PP is now trying to appropriate it" by presenting it in other municipalities. The same motion will soon be presented in other municipalities such as Manacor and Felanitx. It should be noted that the PP will register the proposal to the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca) to request a ban on the burka and niqab in public spaces, which was approved this past Tuesday in the Balearic Parliament.

The City Council plans to approve next Thursday, in the City Council plenary session, a modification to the ordinance regulating advertising installations and activities, which has not been amended since its approval in 1993. In this regard, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Heritage, Housing, and Participation, Andreu Caballero, explained that the objective of the modification is to prevent messages of hate or violence from being broadcast on billboards. Failure to comply with the ordinance may result in fines of up to 30,000 euros in the most serious cases. The City Council may also act ex officio to remove the advertising.

The text was approved in the plenary session with votes from the People's Party (PP). According to ARA Baleares, through various sources, this was not an ordinary email. On July 1, the minutes of the plenary session in which the City Council approved the text were sent through the municipal electronic office. Schools that wanted to read them had to identify themselves and generate a reading notice. But many did not open them. Others read them and deleted them automatically. In any case, no city council has jurisdiction over what is taught in the area's schools. Municipal functions focus on ensuring their maintenance and paying for their utilities.
