The rain has given a respite to Mallorca and Ibiza after a dawn of intense storms, the bulk of which discharged over the sea and did not cause any notable incidents. This was explained this Friday by the head of Emergencies, Aurelio Soto, after the meeting of the technical advisory committee.

The storm that has been hovering over the Balearic Islands since this Wednesday has lashed out this Thursday afternoon on the island of Ibiza, where it has left numerous incidents throughout its geography. Aemet has warned that, in addition to the showers, the instability structure could have caused very strong wind gusts, initially between 70 to 90 km/h, and regarding precipitation, more than 50 mm could accumulate in one hour.

Aemet has raised the warning level for this Thursday and forecasts a day with greater intensity of rainfall, especially in Ibiza and Formentera, which will be under an orange warning for rain and storms throughout the day, with accumulations that could reach 50 liters per square meter in one hour. These precipitations could be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 50 kilometers per hour.

The storm that arrived in the Balearic Islands this Wednesday has already left 154 incidents between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the vast majority in Mallorca and related to fallen trees and flooding. Palma is, by far, the municipality that has concentrated the most incidents, with 51 alerts managed by the 112 emergency service.

The Balearic Islands were lit up last night by intense and constant lightning, amid a storm episode that affected different parts of the Islands and left over 100 incidents, according to data from the Emergency Coordination Center. The electrical activity left a spectacular sky full of lightning, as can be seen in the images recorded in Colonia de Sant Pere by geographer Miquel Salamanca. The phenomenon, however, is not exceptional at this time of year. According to him, it is a "very typical" pattern for the end of August in the Balearic Islands and the Mediterranean.

The high temperature will put the Balearic Islands on alert this Wednesday. There will be yellow alerts in Ibiza, Formentera, the Serra de Tramuntana, the interior, north and northeast of Mallorca. They will be active between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM due to the forecast that temperatures will reach 37 and 38°C. On Thursday, in the Serra de Tramuntana, the high temperature alert will rise to orange.

The 112 Emergency Coordination Center handled a total of 79 incidents between noon and 8 p.m. on Wednesday related to the storm. According to Emergency Services, the majority of incidents occurred in Ibiza (49), while 17 were in Mallorca and 12 in Formentera. On the island of Ibiza, 16 incidents took place in the municipality of Ibiza Town, 14 in Sant Josep, nine in Santa Eulària, six in Sant Antoni, and four in Sant Joan. Among the incidents across the islands, 19 were fallen trees, 15 were landslides, 14 were trees falling onto roads, ten were urban elements dislodged, seven were liquid obstacles on roads, and six were flooded public roads.
