Go to Google Earth (available on web and Android) and do zoom On top of your favorite beach, select the 'Show past images' function until you find the first clear photo. We tested this on the beaches of the small, overpopulated municipality of Ibiza, as they are the subject of this article: Talamanca, Les Figueretes, and a section of Playa de la Bossa. The first truly clear photos are from 2008-2009. Only 17 years have passed, but you can already see how Talamanca has lost some of its sand, while a section of Playa de la Bossa has simply evaporated.

Sources within the association have maintained that in other municipalities of Mallorca, such as Calvià, Ses Salines, and Son Servera, "very serious situations arising from business malpractice" have occurred. According to the complaint, the businessman owes more than six million euros. They explained that this businessman, through shell companies created specifically to participate in public tenders, submits bids with very high fees. In this way, they asserted, he secures the concession and then "systematically fails to comply" with his obligations.

The environmental organization stated in a press release that the initial project included an economic and financial study with maximum unit rates for services such as sunbeds, parasols, and pedal boats throughout the municipality. However, as they have denounced, the tender includes a new study with higher prices and even services not previously included, such as premium sunbeds and canvas parasols, which could lead to charges exceeding authorized levels.

The chapter reveals that the islands' beaches not only suffer a progressive decline in water quality but also endure increasing pressure from both bathers and boats. For the experts of the collaborative research project, it is essential to extend the monitoring of users and vessels to all the islands, as it is currently only carried out in Menorca, with the aim of improving the management of these spaces and guaranteeing both the conservation of marine ecosystems and a safe and satisfactory experience for users. The conclusions indicate that, although the overall values for quality and usage remain within normal parameters, the trend is toward worsening water quality and increased human and nautical pressure.

Unfortunately, this is not a phenomenon exclusive to Portocristo, and many coves in our area are already suffering the effects of coastal regression to a greater or lesser extent.
