The new hospitality industry agreement has raised a storm among unions. A week after the agreement between the UGT and the employers' association, the CCOO (Working Council of Workers' Unions) hasn't given up on its demands. The union considers it "unacceptable" that sick leave coverage has worsened and that the sixth day of work has been "sold out." This is even more so in a context where the CCOO (Working Council of Workers) was seeking a 15% pay increase.

This Wednesday, the CCOO (Working Workers' Commissions) launched a campaign in the Balearic Islands against "the inappropriate use" of the term "absenteeism" by employers, who—according to the union—use it "deliberately" with the aim of "demonizing rights" such as sick leave, reduced hours for childcare, strike hours, and vacation time. According to the union, these cases "are not unjustified absences—or absenteeism—but rather rights protected by the system."
