The Ombudsman of Palma, Anna Moilanen, has issued a warning about the paralysis of municipal subsidies: if the situation is not resolved quickly, "it could mean the disappearance of a part of the associative fabric" of the City. The suspension, which is already extending towards the fifth month without a clear resolution timeline, affects "a wide range of activities – educational, sports, cultural, social, and neighborhood – and puts services at risk" which, in some cases, compensate for "shortcomings of the Administration itself", she explained.

The suspension of municipal grants for 2026 in Palma has set off alarm bells among the neighborhood fabric, which denounces a lack of information, legal uncertainty, and a real risk of activities in the neighborhoods grinding to a halt. Associations warn that the situation, linked to an audit by the Court of Auditors of the 2022 grants, not only affects ongoing projects but also casts doubt on the continuity of aid for 2027.

Palma's neighborhood associations expressed their outrage before the Court of Justice on Tuesday because they have still not received the subsidies for the 2025-2026 grant period, for which they are demanding "immediate payment." The neighborhood associations denounced that these grants "are suffering the longest delays in recent years" and asserted that they owe invoices and have stopped carrying out activities for this reason. "They've put us in a straitjacket," denounced the president of the Federation of Palma Neighborhood Associations, Maribel Alcázar.

The Palma Residents' Federation on Friday criticized the recently passed law that plans to rezone rural land for the development of thousands of apartments. Specifically, they denounced the fact that the regional government is handing over public land—which was intended for the construction of amenities—to developers to build rental housing at prices that, they considered, "are anything but affordable for the people who have the greatest difficulty finding housing."

The Federation of Neighborhood Associations, together with Palma XXI, take the case to court. the civic ordinance of Palma with "the aim of overturning it," according to the president of the Federation, Maribel Alcázar.
