A sailboat less than three meters long, with no one on board and only a one-kilogram bag of salt as cargo. This is the challenge that will set sail from the Sant Antoni Nautical Club and could mark a before and after in maritime navigation. The project, christened Raig FNB, is the work of about twenty students from the Faculty of Nautical Studies of Barcelona at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

The Balearic Islands are celebrating Sustainable Mobility Day with staggering figures. The three island airports – Palma (PMI), Ibiza (IBZ), and Menorca (MAH) – have registered an overall increase of 75% in passenger numbers over the last quarter century. Between 2000 and 2024, total passengers rose from 26.67 million to 46.54 million, the most significant increase among Spanish airports. These figures confirm what many experts have been denouncing for years: the environmental "unsustainability" of the island's economic model, which bases its income on the increase in the number of visitors, with the highest growth rate in the entire country. As for passenger traffic by sea, the figures have almost doubled in less than 20 years. Regular passenger traffic has increased from 3.9 million in 2010 to 7.4 million in 2024, while the 2.5 million cruise passengers represent an increase of one million people between 2010 and 2024.

The Ministry of Mobility, the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM), the concessionaire companies, and the SATI union will introduce two 15-minute breaks in the working day for drivers of the Balearic Islands Transport (TIB) exempt from the tachograph regulations. This measure, which the SATI union considers "a key achievement" after the July strike, aims to improve worker health and road safety without reducing service frequencies, as the organization detailed in a statement this Monday.

The SATI union, the majority union in the collective bargaining agreement for intercity public transport (TIB), confirmed that it is maintaining the strike planned for July 18, 21, and 23, as well as the start of an indefinite strike starting on the 25th, after considering the proposal presented by the companies insufficient. According to Efe, the strike was registered on July 7 due to the deadlock in negotiations, which it attributes to a "provocative" attitude from the employers and proposals it considers far from the real needs of the staff to carry out their work "with a minimum of dignity."
