Artà hosts the Cool Days Festival from May 7th to 10th

https://en.arabalears.cat/culture/arta-hosts-the-cool-days-festival-from-may-7th-to-10th_1_5723743.html

The Artà City Council presented this Thursday the poster and program for the Cool Days Festival 2026, which this year reaches its 21st edition and will be held from May 7 to 10. The presentation took place outside the Artà Theatre and was attended by the mayor, Manolo Galán; the director of the Artà Theatre and the festival, Josep Devesa; and the councilor for Cultural Action and Promotion, Toni Bonet. The festival once again opts for a diverse and quality program, with proposals that combine theatre, circus, music and performing arts for all audiences. Among the highlights of this edition is the Reggae Fest, a new musical proposal that is incorporated into the program, as well as the play 'Vientos del pueblo', by Pep Tosar, and the show 'Tarsius', by the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, which represents the presence of a benchmark company in the national performing arts scene. Another of the notable novelties is the Cool Kids Day, a family day that will take place on May 9 at Na Batlessa, with activities designed for all ages. The day will include games, interactive installations, circus shows, theater, and a concert by La Colla Pirata, with the participation of proposals such as Andy Cirque, Artilusio, L'atelier, Els amics d'en Crusó, Steam Pinball, TremolArtà, and Eclosions. Furthermore, the festival maintains its commitment to the educational field, with various performances aimed at educational centers, with shows such as Andy Cirque (circus), Cenerentola (puppet theater), Yoav & Ahmed (theater) and TorcidXs. Regarding the poster for this edition, it is the work of the artanenc artist Miquel Garau. His proposal revolves around the figure of the turtle, which symbolizes a slow but firm advance towards a more open, inclusive, and rooted culture, in contrast to the current accelerated pace. The complete program can be consulted on the festival's official website: www.cooldaysfestival.com

The events occurred last Tuesday, after a citizen alerted about the presence of people spray-painting in the public street. Based on this alert, the responsible company was identified, the City Council documented the facts, and has prepared the corresponding report.

https://en.arabalears.cat/society/from-son-servera-to-arta-via-the-jordana-pass_130_5569605.html

The Pla i Llevant region of Mallorca invites you to explore its rich and fascinating cultural landscape. Its natural heritage is undeniable and equally important, but the imprint of humanity throughout the centuries on every corner is an essential added value for any true hiker. This week's route connects the towns of Son Servera and Artà. This variant of the GR 222 trail leads us to the Levante Peninsula Natural Park, following an old path that links Son Servera and Artà via the Jordana pass. The route crosses, among other areas, the estates of Son Xerubí, Jordana, and Estelrica, and traverses an agricultural zone far removed from typical coastal landscapes, dominated by pastureland, centuries-old olive groves, scattered holm oaks, and extensive scrubland used for hunting. The hike can become a comfortable and pleasant stroll through the inland landscapes of the Levante region, with its gentle hills and low mountains. To make it a loop, we can return along the Manacor-Artà greenway. Of the 29 kilometers, we will cover 10, from Artà to Son Servera. If we prefer to use public transport, there are two bus lines: L-412 (Costa dels Pins-Manacor) and L-424 (Cala Rajada-Portocristo). If we are coming from Palma or anywhere else on the island outside the Levante region, we must change buses in Manacor. The starting point of the route is the Plaza de San Juan in Son Servera.

[00 min] Before we set off, let's take a look around. The Church of San Juan Bautista is the twin of the village of Son Servera. It was built on the former estate of Son Fra Garí, the nickname of its owner in the early 16th century, Sebastià Servera i Tous. Evidence of this can be seen in the battlements of an old defensive tower that protrude behind the bell tower. The first inhabitants of the village settled around it. In the church square, we can admire the sculpture of the Pastoret, erected in homage to the victims of the 1820 plague. Very close by is the Nova Church, dating from 1904. This unfinished work was commissioned to the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver.

The event took place this morning at the Cala Mesquida viewpoint, attended by the President of the Executive, Marga Prohens, and the Regional Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment, Joan Simonet. The purchase of the four estates, which cover a total area of 583.9 hectares and are located in protected areas, has involved an outlay of €3.38 million, the government reported in a statement. "This transaction represents a key milestone for the preservation of Mallorca's natural and cultural heritage, as the acquired estates are located within areas of maximum environmental protection, such as the Natura 2000 Network and the Levante Peninsula Natural Park," Prohens emphasized. They also include the Cabo del Freu Nature Reserve, an ecological enclave where emblematic species such as the osprey nest (Pandion haliaetus) or the sea raven (Phalacrocorax aristotelios).
