The First Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands has ordered the reopening of the legal case against the former mayor of Capdepera, Rafael Fernández Mallol, and a former chief of the town's local police force for alleged crimes of workplace harassment and administrative misconduct. The court also upheld the dismissal of the case against the other individuals under investigation. The proceedings began following a complaint filed by a Capdepera local police officer, who reported to the court a series of actions that, in his opinion, constituted coercion, degrading treatment, workplace harassment, and arbitrary administrative decisions by municipal officials and police commanders. The events allegedly occurred after the officer applied for a permanent civil service position.

The Councilor for Fairs and Festivals of the Capdepera Town Hall, Joan Campins Melis (MÁS), has categorically denied physically or verbally assaulting any member of the Local Police on New Year's Eve, after some media outlets reported that two officers may have filed a complaint regarding a possible altercation with him. In a statement published on his social media profile, Campins maintains that his intervention was to try to control the situation after a fight broke out in Plaça del Sitjar, and that he alerted the officers to take action. According to his account, the police were positioned in an area with limited visibility and far from the most problematic locations, such as the restrooms and the bar, and their intervention occurred after the fight had already ended.

Rain and a drop in temperature have returned to Mallorca, especially to the northeast of the island, where sleet has blanketed Capdepera and Cala Rajada in white. After the temperature plummeted and the freezing water created striking images, the tourist center of Capdepera shows the effects of the storm in this part of Mallorca.

Capdepera will have its first pro-independence mayor, a move that MÁS por Mallorca describes as "a source of pride and hope" for the entire party. According to party coordinator Lluís Apesteguia, in a letter to party members, the change in leadership symbolizes "the culmination of decades of work by many people who have fought for a better municipality within a better Mallorca."

The GOB has once again denounced the alleged unlicensed operation of a kiosk-bar on Son Moll beach in Capdepera. The environmental organization recalled that on August 9, 2024, they filed a complaint with the Coastal Demarcation for the alleged unauthorized operation of the kiosk. However, after more than a year, they regret that they have not received any response regarding the reported events. During this time, they indicated, the kiosk continued to operate, so they filed a new complaint.

The People's Party (PP) won the May 2023 municipal elections in the Balearic Islands, controlling 33 of the islands' 67 municipalities. The Civil Guard has arrested four people involved in a series of incidents occurred on May 17 and 18 in different towns in the Levante region of Mallorca, where several attempted homicides were committed for attempting to run over local police officers and reckless driving, Efe reports. The most serious incident occurred in the early hours of May 18, when a vehicle fleeing after being followed by a Civil Guard patrol in Cala Rajada came across a Local Police checkpoint in Capdepera. The driver failed to stop and intentionally accelerated towards one of the officers.

The Catalan government officially announced this Thursday the purchase of the public estates of Son Jaumell, in Capdepera, and Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana, and Cala Estreta, in Artà. The event took place this morning at the Cala Mesquida viewpoint, attended by the President of the Executive, Marga Prohens, and the Regional Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Natural Environment, Joan Simonet. The purchase of the four estates, which cover a total area of 583.9 hectares and are located in protected areas, has involved an outlay of €3.38 million, the government reported in a statement. "This transaction represents a key milestone for the preservation of Mallorca's natural and cultural heritage, as the acquired estates are located within areas of maximum environmental protection, such as the Natura 2000 Network and the Levante Peninsula Natural Park," Prohens emphasized. They also include the Cabo del Freu Nature Reserve, an ecological enclave where emblematic species such as the osprey nest (Pandion haliaetus) or the sea raven (Phalacrocorax aristotelios).
