The main authorities of the Islands attended the commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the Constitution. Rodríguez Badal recalled that this year marks 50 years since the death of dictator Francisco Franco, which ushered in "a time of hope and optimism" thanks to the "courage" and "common sense" of all those who faced "an enormous challenge." He defended the Constitution as "a tool destined to endure" and "the key" to leaving behind "a period of darkness" and moving towards "a modern country."

To a greater or lesser degree, we all are. Some strive to be aware of their racist attitudes and eliminate them, others are completely oblivious, and some are proud racists. For your sake, I hope you're in the first group. The most problematic is the second, and it's in this category that well-intentioned and paternalistic institutions might fall, those that speak of humanitarian causes and human rights, even though their grandiloquent words don't translate into action.

Just over 24 hours ago, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) denied the government delegation's claims to the islands and asserted that it has no agents deployed in the archipelago. It also stated that the Spanish government has not requested assistance in that territory. However, the Ministry of the Interior maintains that in November 2024 it requested air reinforcements for Frontex, specifically on the southern border of the Balearic Islands, to improve the detection of small boats. Furthermore, it insists that this reinforcement became effective especially starting last February. The People's Party (PP) has asked Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska to clarify why there are such discrepancies in the accounts.

The Balearic president reacted in this way to the minister's warning, in statements to TVE, that she would send the security forces to enforce the law if any region refuses to accept the unaccompanied migrant minors who are entitled to it under the government decree. "I would ask the Spanish government to stop acting tough and making threats and to make itself available, collaborating with the communities, to see what solution we can find," added the Balearic leader.
