The judges found no reason to doubt the victim's credibility or that she had any "ulterior motive" in giving her incriminating account. In addition, as stated in the ruling, a series of supplementary pieces of evidence, analyzed as a whole, contribute to reinforcing the veracity of the complainant's testimony. For example, a Civil Guard officer testified at the trial that, when they received the complaint, they had already been arresting the defendant for a week for similar offenses. The officer stated that he knew the defendant had a criminal record. In fact, during the hearing, the prosecution presented a sentence in which, after reaching a plea agreement, he was sentenced to two years in prison for sexually abusing another client, this one 15 years old. The sentence is not final, and there is no appeal pending before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands.
