As explained this Monday by the Minister of Health, Manuela García, at a press conference, the program consists of a series of workshops in which family members will receive support. It is a complementary service to the psychological treatment already available. The protocol establishes that family members can go directly to the Red Cross or be referred by their family doctor. The goal, according to the Minister, is for people to feel supported by others who have experienced a similar situation. Investment of 30,000 euros

For his part, the president of the Red Cross in the Balearic Islands, Mateu Ballester, indicated that the agreement has an investment of 30,000 euros for a two-year term. The project focuses on peer support to accompany the grieving process through the creation and maintenance of mutual support groups, both in person and online, which will complement the care already provided in healthcare centers. As he explained, the program will allow support during the initial phase of grief—which can be addressed at the health center when deemed necessary—and subsequently offer support for a longer period through psychosocial interventions. Safe space

Facilitators will also be trained to ensure a safe and trusting environment for participants. Individual orientation and initial assessment sessions are also planned, along with telephone follow-up for those who join the groups. The agreement also includes training activities, psychosocial support, and community intervention aimed at minimizing the emotional, social, and community consequences of suicidal behavior. Talks will be organized in public spaces, and informational and guidance materials on suicidal behavior and mental health will be developed.
