The XIX Day of Organic Agriculture will turn the center of Porreres on July 11th into a large night fair to discover, taste, and enjoy the organic production of the Balearic Islands. The event is organized by the Association of Agroecological Production of Mallorca (APAEMA) and the City Council of Porreres.

This past week marked the first 100 days of the Popular Party's mayorship in Porreres in the 21st century. Maria Agnès Sampol Sabater (Porreres, 1986) took the reins of command after the government pact signed with El Pi of Xisca Mora. Sampol was the first time she ran as the head of the list; before, she had been number 3 in the 2015 elections, and number 2 in the 2019 elections. Now, 100 days after taking office, we speak with her about her experience and the challenges Porreres faces ahead.

The Porreres Town Hall will undergo a forced relocation and will be installed with all the personnel from the different municipal services in the Museum and Artistic Fund building. The serious structural problems that the building in Plaça de la Vila is suffering from, which forced an emergency shoring of the ground floor and the first floor in the autumn of 2024, have led the City Council to make a drastic decision: to completely evacuate the municipal offices to face a solution and at the same time guarantee the safety of workers and residents.

The Porreres Apricot Fair is all set for its 13th edition, which has gradually established itself as one of the most special events on the calendar. This Saturday, the town's streets will be filled with colour, flavour, and creativity, with the apricot as the undisputed main and sole star.

Just over two months have passed since last March 29, when Father Francesc Novella celebrated his last mass at the oratory of Sant Felip de Porreres. Since that day, the temple has kept its doors wide open, a situation that has gone from initial sadness to indignation and bewilderment among the faithful. The community, the vast majority of whom are elderly people, do not understand why the space remains inactive, even though the institutional promise was that it would reopen for worship more or less immediately.

Porreras experienced a special weekend with the celebration of the Senior Citizens' Fair, an event that filled the town's streets with visitors from different parts of Mallorca. More than 4,000 people participated in this gathering, which has already established itself as one of the most prominent on the social calendar of the island's municipalities.

The Consell de Mallorca has been the subject of criticism this Thursday after a stand dedicated to the exaltation of the Francoist military man Millán-Astray was set up within the framework of the Feria de la Gent Gran.

In 1976, Porreres took a key step in education. That academic year, the doors opened to a center that was born with the name Colegio Nacional Mixto. It was a school that responded to demographic growth and the need for new facilities in the municipality. This year, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, the currently named CEIP Climent Serra i Servera blows out the candles, consolidated as a benchmark for public, inclusive, and diverse education in Porreres and in the Pla de Mallorca.

“It is not a cry of despair, we have time, but we cannot find an apartment to rent in Porreres and we do not want to have to move to another town”. The housing crisis in Mallorca is reaching Pla little by little and it has a face and eyes, and in Porreres there is an example. A single-parent family from Porreres, made up of a mother and daughter, has turned what should have been a conventional advertisement looking for a rental apartment into an original protest publication through which they have wanted to make visible the reality of many families and also young people who find themselves with an increasingly inaccessible real estate market throughout Mallorca, and Pla is no exception.

The desire for fun has no age limit. The celebration of an 'horabauxa' is one of the novelties with which the Feria de la Gent Gran (Great People's Fair), organized by the Consell de Mallorca, will close in Porreres on April 25th. It is a festival that in its previous edition in 2025 brought together up to 3,000 people in ses Salines.

Porreres has once again demonstrated its commitment to justice and the recovery of historical memory with the commemoration of the act of remembrance of the victims who fought for the Second Republic, in an event organized by the municipality's Memory Commission and the City Council.

Maria Agnès Sampol Sabater (Porreres, 1986) has become the new mayor of Porreres, 27 years after the People's Party (PP) last governed the municipality, replacing Xisca Mora Veny. She assumed the position as part of a governing pact signed between the PP and El Pi after each party won four seats in the 2023 elections, while Más won five.

Maria Bel Sorell Pou, originally from Porreres, has been living in Meydan, Dubai, for a year. She works there and intends to return despite the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East. "I have a ticket to come to Porreres for Easter and then return to Dubai after the holidays, if the war allows it, of course," she says in a message that conveys the calm with which she has experienced these days of international uncertainty. She works on marketing projects, photography, online communication, and branding, and specializes in social media management and creating campaigns for luxury hotels, restaurants, and events. She will remember the start of the conflict precisely because of the lack of perceived danger she experienced. "A friend of mine from Spain said to me, 'Have you seen the news?' And since I was working, he couldn't give me many details. My first reaction was to check if everyone in Mallorca was okay or if anything had happened in Spain, but I didn't see anything," she explains.

The elderly man who went missing this Sunday in Porreres has been found safe and sound. Nevertheless, medical personnel who went to the scene carried out medical checks to obtain a more detailed diagnosis. Approximately fifty people participated in the search operation, focusing on inspecting and covering the assigned areas, with aerial support to optimize the search. Seventeen members of the Mallorca Fire Department participated, including agents from the Llucmajor Fire Station, the Inca Rescue Group, and the air unit. Milana10 Civil Guard officers, 7 Local Police officers, and 17 members of Civil Protection and Volunteers.

The parishioners of Porreres who are faithful to the Sant Felip Neri oratory will be left without a church after Palm Sunday, March 29th, the date on which Father Francesc Novella will celebrate his last Mass and lock the church doors. The closure will mark the end of an important part of the town's history and, of course, the end of a chapter in Novella's life, as he has led the oratory for nearly 30 years. For some time now, various reports have pointed to the closure of Sant Felip. In fact, during the prayers at Mass for several months, Francesc Novella had been asking for the oratory's continued operation. However, it caught the attention of the faithful that he had stopped including this prayer in recent Masses, which could mean that its continued operation had been guaranteed or, conversely, that the closure of the center was a firm decision.

From the town square to the council chamber, from local festivals to municipal debates, the Pla de Mallorca is built day by day, town by town. Throughout 2025, the events in the 14 municipalities and the Commonwealth have painted a diverse yet shared picture of a region facing structural challenges while keeping its identity alive.

The driver of a truck carrying construction materials was injured after the vehicle overturned in Mallorca. The accident, according to the Mallorca Fire Department, occurred at 3:21 p.m. this Tuesday at kilometer five of the Ma-5040 highway. The driver was trapped inside the truck and had to be transported by paramedics from the SAMU 061 emergency medical service to a hospital. The construction materials he was transporting spilled onto the road. Firefighters from the Llucmajor and Felanitx fire stations, as well as officers from the Local Police and the Civil Guard, responded to the incident.

Maria Ripoll Garau, from Porreres, passed away this Sunday at the age of 97. Neboda of Mayor Climent Garau, assassinated in 1936 by fascists, and daughter of Maria Garau Juan, she was a voice against the repression in the Pla de Mallorca region, and specifically in Porreres, where she was born and lived. The phrase that always accompanied her in her struggle and work to keep alive what she experienced in her childhood and during the Franco regime was clear, direct, and forceful: "We will continue to tell what happened, because they will say it and they won't believe it."

The house at number 16 Rector Llompart Street in Porreres has a narrow, unassuming facade. Richard Nightingale Goss settled there in 2003 and died there in early 2023. He left behind an immense library, countless photographs on a collection of recordable CDs, which also contain video and music recordings from bands all over the island. He also left a piano, an organ, cameras, furniture… and his unmistakable bicycle. Tot Pla documented Richard's time in Porreres, his influence across almost the entire island, and his tireless activity in an obituary by Joan Ferrà, a neighbor on the same street, published in August 2023.

The on-call judge at Manacor Court No. 3 has ordered Andreu Veny to be released with a restraining order after taking his statement this Thursday. Veny is being investigated for alleged burglary, attempted burglary, and threats against the rector of the San Felipe Neri oratory in Porreres, Francesc Novella.
