State officials assigned to the Balearic Islands will receive up to 700 euros more per month as a residence allowance starting this month. The Spanish government has approved the compensation agreement for insularity, proposed by the UGT, which updates amounts that have not been revised for 20 years. The increase compensates for the high cost of living and will be particularly significant in Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, while in Mallorca the amounts will be aligned with those already received by public employees assigned to the Canary Islands.The new monthly compensation ranges between 214.61 euros for staff in group A1 assigned to Mallorca and 697.67 euros for the same workers if they are based in Menorca, Ibiza, or Formentera. In the case of administrative staff in group C1, the supplement will be 144.61 euros per month in Mallorca and 405.10 euros in the rest of the Archipelago.

The 0-3 Network of the Balearic Islands and the UGT, CCOO, and STEI unions will resume mobilizations in September if the employers' associations continue to refuse to negotiate an autonomous agreement for the nursery school sector.

CCOO Balears has attacked this Wednesday against the new hotel convention of the Balearic Islands and has warned that it generates greater job insecurity, especially among fixed-term discontinuous workers, because it expands the possibilities of temporary hiring. The union considers that the agreement represents “a clear setback in employment stability” and has thus justified its refusal to sign it.

Given the magnitude of the housing crisis, the growing concern it generates, and the feeling that the policies applied so far have not addressed the problem with the necessary ambition, it is essential to start focusing also on possible solutions. It is a matter too serious to resign ourselves to repeating well-known diagnoses. The housing crisis is today a great social crisis, because it directly affects people's right to develop a life project with dignity.

More than a hundred people gathered this Friday on the Born promenade in Palma, called by UGT, to protest against a state agreement in the commerce sector that, according to the union, could mean a reduction in salary and rights for thousands of workers in the Islands.

The four TIB workers' assemblies overwhelmingly supported the agreement reached between the union and management for labor improvements, so the strike has been definitively called off.

77% of Mallorca's taxis will provide their service jointly to eight municipalities on the island (Palma, Calvià, Esporles, Valldemossa, Llucmajor, Deià, Puigpunyent and Bunyola), all located between the Bay of Palma and the Tramuntana mountain range. This means that taxis in these municipalities will be able to pick up passengers in any other town that has signed up to the agreement and unload passengers anywhere in Mallorca. The towns that have joined the joint taxi service will also have the new single rate which has prompted the Government.

Once the hospitality industry agreement between the sector's employers' associations and the UGT was signed, the series isn't over. The final chapter took place this Wednesday, when the government, employers' associations, and unions signed a tripartite agreement to control absenteeism and improve work-life balance and worker training—a document in which the CCOO (Working Council of Workers) does not appear. This union did not sign the hospitality agreement because, despite the 13.5% salary increase over three years, they consider the loss of labor rights that this entails unacceptable.
