The recent days of heavy rain in the Balearic Islands have caused damage to some educational infrastructure. The CEIP Sa Marina school in Llucmajor informed families on Tuesday that, due to leaks detected in the Early Childhood Education classrooms, some areas had to be closed. According to the school administration, "the accumulation of rain over several days has caused flooding in various classrooms and damaged the ceilings in some areas. These leaks have been present for many years, and the school has issued numerous warnings and communications over time. As a result of these incidents, inspections have been carried out to address the problems." The Education Department is taking charge.

The school also sent videos to the Regional Ministry of Education for technical analysis. "They have assured us that the current situation does not pose a risk of collapse," school officials informed families. This Wednesday, technicians from the Regional Ministry visited the facilities to assess the damage and plan repairs as quickly as possible. Sources from the Regional Ministry of Education reiterate that school maintenance is the responsibility of the municipalities, although in this case they intervened to expedite the resolution of the problems.

IES La Ribera and CEIP Cas Capiscol. These are the last two public schools built in Palma, in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Since then, the school population for children aged 0-4 has decreased by 1,958, there are 2,203 more students between the ages of 5 and 9, and 2,548 more young people between the ages of 10 and 14, according to data from the first version of the Educational Infrastructure Plan, which has still been designed by the Regional Ministry of Education. The school population has increased overall, but the number of schools has not. Currently, in Palma there are 22 secondary schools (IES), 42 secondary schools (CEIP), and four secondary schools (CEIPIESO).

The new Felanitx Primary School will have capacity for 450 students and will have seven specific places in the Special Education Unit in a regular school. The Regional Minister of Education and Universities, Antoni Vera, presented the project to the education community on Tuesday. The project will have a budget of 8.14 million euros and an 18-month completion period. The project presentation was also attended by the Regional Secretary for Educational Development, Mateu Suñer, the manager of the Balearic Institute of Infrastructure and Educational Services (IBISEC), and the Mayor of Felanitx, Catalina Soler.
