Neither the boy nor his mother knew it was a non-school day, the City Council reported in a statement on Sunday. At 9:15 a.m., a citizen alerted the officers after seeing the boy alone inside the school grounds. When the patrol arrived, they found that the playground gate, although locked, opened when pushed. Inside, they found the boy, who explained that, seeing no one else around, he had remembered it wasn't school and had decided to wait for his mother to come back for him. The officers took him to another nearby school where an activity was scheduled.
