The Ministry of Defence has confirmed to the Government that the Spanish army will be deployed in the Balearic Islands on the day of the eclipse and will form part of the security device that has been planned to control the influx of people. The Vice-President and spokesperson for the Executive, Antoni Costa, announced this Friday after the meeting of the Governing Council. However, he also acknowledged that the Executive has no estimate of the influx of people. "It is evident that it would be very considerable if there were no kind of restriction," he said without providing any approximate figure.

A Spanish army maritime action ship escorted and monitored three Russian Navy vessels as they passed through the Mediterranean Sea, specifically off the coast of Mallorca. According to a statement released this Wednesday by the Defence Staff (Emead), the vessels were a Russian corvette, a frigate, and a supply ship, accompanying two merchant ships during their westward navigation of the Mediterranean.

Between August 10 and 16, a section of the Spanish Army belonging to the Palma 47 Regiment will deploy patrols in Ibiza to conduct "reconnaissance, both on foot and on vehicles, in different areas of the island." On this occasion, the soldiers will carry out presence, surveillance, and deterrence missions at different points in the municipalities of San Antonio de Portmany, San José de Sa Atalaya, and the city of Ibiza.
