Every summer, before the Patron Saint's festivities begin, Pollença experiences another date marked on the calendar: the election of the characters for the Mock Battle of Moors and Christians. More than 4,300 people have participated this year in a vote that decides who will bring to life the most emblematic characters of the festival and which, over the years, has become much more than a simple ballot count. It is the moment when the town chooses who will take on the responsibility of representing one of its most cherished traditions.

“Only one defeat can be sadder than a victory: the survivors cry for those who will be absent forever, others scream in pain [...] Then come the other heroes who pick up the trash and clean the streets of urine and plastic cups”.

Pollença has already chosen the protagonists of the battle between Moors and Christians that will be held next August 2nd within the framework of the Patron Saint's festivities. Daniel Pérez will play the legendary Joan Mas, after obtaining more than 1,300 votes in this Friday evening's elections.

Surrounded by threads, needles and fabrics, Carme Vidal (Palma, 1996) has made herhobbyA passion and a career opportunity. While working in a fabric store, she launched her own wedding dress brand with a unique approach: the dresses will be modular—come in pieces and can be combined in various ways—and can be rented; there's no need to buy them. While working on this project, a new business opportunity arose: making dresses for the patron saint of Pollença, the Battle of the Moors and Christians, starring Joan Mas. This new project presents something new that hadn't existed before: feminizing Moorish dresses.
